How Baby Jake Was Made
This show cost about £1.85 million to create. Money for the show came from the Irish Film Board and CBeebies.
The idea for Baby Jake came from a company called Darrall Macqueen. They worked with JAM Media, an Irish animation studio, to make the animated parts of the show. JAM Media also created another show called Tilly and Friends. Maddy Darrall, one of the creators, got the idea for Baby Jake by watching her 7-year-old nephew understand her 1-year-old son.
The animation for the series was done in Dublin, Ireland. Dave Ingham, who also wrote for shows like Charlie and Lola and The Koala Brothers, was the main writer for Baby Jake.
Exploring Baby Jake's Adventures
The show is all about Jake, a 9-month-old baby. Jake lives in a windmill with his nine older brothers and sisters and their parents. All the children's names start with the first ten letters of the alphabet!
In each episode, Baby Jake goes on a magical adventure. He meets many special friends like Nibbles the Rabbit, Sydney the Monkey, Pengy Quinn the Penguin, Captain Spacey and the Hamsternauts, Toot Toot the Tractor, and Bill the Red Bus. These friends always join in on Jake's exciting journeys.
The show has a child narrator, which was a unique choice for children's TV. All ten children in the show are real actors. Baby Jake's face is a real photograph, but his body is animated. His 5-year-old brother, Isaac, translates Jake's baby babbling for the audience. Isaac was voiced by a real 5-year-old boy, which was a new idea for children's shows at the time. The real-life brothers Adamo and Franco Bertacchi Morroni played Jake and Isaac. Kaizer Akhtar provided Isaac's voice.

Where Baby Jake Lives: The Windmill
The special windmill you see in the show is a real place! It's called Sibsey Trader Mill and is located just outside the village of Sibsey near Boston in Lincolnshire, England.
In the show, the windmill looks like a big family home with extra floors, rooms, and windows. It even has working sails! When they filmed the show in late summer 2010, they had to wait to harvest the wheat in the fields around the mill. This was so the wheat would have the perfect golden color for the filming.
