Backyard Basketball is a fun video game series. It's part of the popular Backyard Sports games. The first game came out in 2001. Humongous Entertainment made it for computers. Later games came out on other consoles.

What makes this game special? You can play as kid versions of famous basketball stars! Early games featured Kevin Garnett and Lisa Leslie. More recent versions even have Stephen Curry as their main character.

How to Play Backyard Basketball

Backyard Basketball offers different ways to play. You can jump into a quick game. Or, you can play a whole season. It's like having your own basketball league!

Game Modes Explained

There are two main ways to play:

  • Single Game: Pick your team and play against the computer. You can also play against a friend. Or, just practice your moves with one player.
  • Season Play: Play many games over a whole season. If your team wins a lot, you can go to the playoffs! Then you might even play in the championship series.

Setting Up Your Game

Before you start, you can change many things. You can pick the court where you play. You can also choose how hard the computer players are. There are easy, medium, and hard settings.

You can turn rules like fouls and fatigue on or off. You can also change sound options. Plus, you can customize your team's jerseys!

Controlling Your Players

The game usually uses your mouse to control players. You click where you want your player to go. Clicking on a teammate passes the ball. Clicking the basket makes your player shoot.

You can also use a keyboard or a game controller.

Picking Your Team

You get to choose your team members. You can pick them freely. Or, you can do a "Full Draft." This means you take turns picking players.

Each player has five skills. These skills are rated from 1 to 10.

  • Inside Shooting: How good they are at shooting close to the basket.
  • Outside Shooting: How good they are at shooting from far away.
  • Ballhandling: How well they keep the ball.
  • Defense: How good they are at stealing or blocking the ball.
  • Quickness: How fast they move around the court.

You can even create your own new players! You choose their skills, height, and look. If your team makes the playoffs, your new players can get even better!

Playing the Game

When you're playing, you control three players on the court. You click to move the player with the ball. If you click on a teammate, you pass the ball. Clicking the basket makes you shoot.

On defense, you click on players to control them. You can try to steal the ball from opponents. You can also try to block their shots.

Each quarter of a game lasts about three minutes. Overtime periods are about one minute. Players get tired if they play too long. Tired players might make more mistakes. You can swap players out to let them rest. Players on the bench get their energy back.

Special Power-Ups

During a game, you might get special power-ups! Most of them help your team.

  • Flaming ball: Your next shot will always go in!
  • Tornado: All your players move super fast.
  • Doughnut: Your next shot will be an awesome slam dunk.
  • 110% Juice: Gives energy to tired players.

But watch out! Some power-ups can make things harder:

  • Icy ball: Your shots are more likely to miss.
  • Stick of butter: Your team might lose the ball more easily.
  • Ice cream truck: Your whole team can't move for a short time.
