Bagmati (Nepali: बागमती अञ्चल Bāgmatī Añcal) was one of the fourteen zones in Nepal. It got its name from the Bagmati River. Bagmati was located in the Central Development Region of Nepal.
This zone included the famous Kathmandu Valley. The capital city of Bagmati was Kathmandu. In 2011, about 3,843,596 people lived there.
What is Bagmati Known For?
Bagmati is known for its natural resources. People mined and exported several materials from this area. These included limestone, talc, zinc, lead, and even silver. Beautiful marble in brown, white, and pink colors was also exported.

Bagmati was divided into eight smaller areas called districts. Each district had its own main town, called a headquarters.
