Bailey Colin Wright (born 28 July 1992) is an Australian professional footballer. He plays as a centre-back or full-back. Currently, he plays for Singapore Premier League club Lion City Sailors. He also plays for the Australia national team.
Before joining Lion City Sailors, Wright played his entire senior career in England. He played for Preston North End, Bristol City, and Sunderland. He was chosen for Australia's team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He also joined the team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Club Career Highlights
Early Football Days
Bailey Wright started playing football at a young age. He spent his early years at Langwarrin. After that, he played a season each with Mornington and Dandenong Thunder. People quickly saw that he was a talented player. In 2007, he was chosen for the Victorian state team.
He improved his skills at the Victorian Institute of Sport in 2008. In 2009, he returned to Langwarrin and played in some senior league games. In July 2009, he moved overseas to join Preston North End. He signed a two-year scholarship with the club.
Time at Preston North End
In his first season with Preston North End, Wright mostly played for the reserve and under-18 teams. He was called up to the senior squad in April 2010. He sat on the bench for a game against Coventry City. He made his first senior appearance in the League Cup in the 2010–11 season. He played the whole game in Preston's 5–0 win against Stockport County. In December 2010, Wright signed a professional contract for two and a half years.
Wright played his first league game for Preston on 5 March 2011 against Norwich City. He scored his first professional goal for Preston on 7 April 2012 against MK Dons. For the 2012–13 season, he was voted 'Young Player of the Year' for Preston North End. In May 2013, he signed a new two-year contract.
In 2015, Wright helped Preston win promotion to a higher league. They won the play-offs by beating Swindon Town 4–0 at Wembley Stadium.
Playing for Bristol City
On 6 January 2017, Bailey Wright joined Bristol City. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract. He made his debut for the club on 7 January 2017 in an FA Cup game. He scored his first goal for Bristol City in a 1–1 draw with Norwich City in March 2017. At the start of the 2017–18 season, Wright was named captain of Bristol City.
Wright played a key role as Bristol City reached the semi-finals of the 2017–18 EFL Cup. They beat Premier League teams like Watford and Manchester United. Bristol City lost to Manchester City in the semi-final. Wright left Bristol City in July 2020 when his contract ended.
Moving to Sunderland
Wright joined League One club Sunderland on a six-month loan on 21 January 2020. On 2 August 2020, Wright signed a permanent two-year deal with Sunderland. He scored his first goal for Sunderland in a 2–2 draw with Rochdale in October 2020.
On 1 July 2023, Sunderland announced that Wright was leaving the club. He played 107 games for Sunderland and was also the club captain. During his time there, he helped them win the 2020-21 EFL Trophy at Wembley Stadium. He also helped them get promoted back to the English second tier in the 2022–23 EFL Championship season.
Loan to Rotherham United
On 31 January 2023, Wright joined fellow Championship club Rotherham United on a loan deal. He made his debut for Rotherham on 4 February in a game against Sheffield United.
Playing for Lion City Sailors
On 9 July 2023, Wright moved to Southeast Asia. He signed a two-year contract with Singapore Premier League club Lion City Sailors. He made his debut for the club on 11 July. On 31 July, after returning from a suspension, Wright scored two goals in a 5–2 win. In his first season, he helped the club win the 2023 Singapore Cup on 12 September.
He also helped the club win the 2024 Singapore Community Shield on 4 May 2024. In a game against Indonesian club Persib Bandung on 24 October, Wright scored a goal that led to a 1–1 draw. He finished as a runner-up in the 2025 AFC Champions League Two final after a close game against Sharjah.
International Career
Youth Team Experience
Bailey Wright was part of the Australia U17 squad. They reached the quarter-finals of the AFC U-16 Championship. They just missed out on a spot in the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup after losing a close game.
Playing for Australia's Senior Team
Wright was chosen by coach Ange Postecoglou for Australia's 23-man squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He was one of two new players but did not play in any games during the tournament.
Wright made his debut for the Australia national team on 8 September 2014. He started in a friendly match against Saudi Arabia in London. He scored a goal with a header in his debut, helping Australia win 3–2.
Wright was called up for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. He played in all three of the team's group stage matches. He was also in the early squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. However, he did not make it into the final 23-man squad.
Wright was selected for the 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He came on as a substitute in the last group stage game against Denmark on 30 November 2022.
