Balochi (also known as Baluchi or Baluci) is a language spoken by millions of people. It is mainly used in parts of Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan. You can also find Balochi speakers in Turkmenistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman.
Balochi is an important language, especially in Pakistan, where it is one of the nine official languages. Some people who speak the Brahui language also use Balochi as a second language.
Balochi Dialects
Just like many languages, Balochi has different ways of being spoken in various places. These different versions are called dialects. Think of it like how people in different parts of a country might have slightly different accents or words for things.
Experts have identified several Balochi dialects:
- Balochi, Eastern
- Balochi, Southern
- Balochi, Western
Other dialects include Rakhshani, Saravani, Lashari, Kechi, and Coastal Dialects. The Rakhshani dialect even has its own sub-dialects, like Kalati and Panjguri.
Where Northern Balochi is Spoken
Northern Balochi dialects are spoken in specific areas. You can find them in:
- Northern parts of Iranian Balochistan and Golestān Province in Iran.
- Northern Nimruz Province in Afghanistan.
- Northern Chagai District in Balochistan, Pakistan.
- Northern parts of Sindh in Pakistan.
These Northern Balochi dialects are quite similar to the northern Rakhshani and southern Makkorani dialects.
