What's Inside Banana Milk?
This yummy drink is mostly milk, about 80% of it! The rest is a special banana flavor that makes it taste so good. Binggrae also makes other regular flavors. These include strawberry, melon, and even coffee. They also have a "banana light" version and a sugar-free "zero" option.
Sometimes, Binggrae creates special flavors for different seasons. These have included lychee, peach, mandarin, mulberry, and pumpkin-sweet potato.
The Story Behind Banana Milk
In the 1970s, the government in South Korea wanted people to drink more milk. At that time, bananas were quite rare and expensive in South Korea. They were seen as a special treat!
So, in 1974, Binggrae came up with a clever idea. They created Banana Flavored Milk. They thought people would buy the milk because it let them taste the exciting flavor of bananas. And they were right!
The Unique Bottle Design
Binggrae decided to sell their new milk in special plastic bottles. This made it different from other milk sold in glass bottles or plastic bags back then. The bottle's shape was inspired by old Korean jars. It even has a special lip at the top to help stop the milk from dripping when you drink it!
How Popular Is It?
Banana Flavored Milk quickly became a huge hit in South Korea. By 2010, people were buying about 800,000 bottles every single day! Since it was first made, over 5.3 billion bottles have been sold across the country. By 2012, the yearly sales of Banana Flavored Milk reached 10 billion South Korean won. That's a lot of banana milk!
Banana Milk Around the World
The first country outside South Korea to get Banana Flavored Milk was the United States. After that, it started being sold in many other places. These include mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
Selling the milk in more countries helped its sales grow even more. From 2010 to 2013, annual sales from international markets jumped from 700 million Korean won to 15 billion Korean won!
The drink became even more popular in Thailand after it was featured at the 2017 Bangkok Food Fair. Its fame also grew a lot in countries like the United States when BTS singer Jungkook was seen drinking it. As of August 2025, Banana Flavored Milk is a top-selling flavored milk product on Amazon.
