Jeon Jung-kook (Hangul: 전정국), known simply as Jungkook, is a singer and songwriter from South Korea. He was born on September 1, 1997. He became very famous as a member and singer of the South Korean boy band BTS.
Jungkook has sung three solo songs for BTS albums. These include "Begin" (2016), "Euphoria" (2018), and "My Time" (2020). All these songs were popular in South Korea. He also sang "Stay Alive" for a webtoon called 7Fates: Chakho, which is based on BTS.
In 2022, Jungkook worked with American singer Charlie Puth on the song "Left and Right". This song reached number 22 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Later that year, he made history. He became the first South Korean artist to release an official song for the FIFA World Cup soundtrack. This song was called "Dreamers". He performed it at the opening ceremony of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In 2023, Jungkook released his first solo song, "Seven", which featured the rapper Latto. This song broke many records for charts and streaming. It went straight to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It also topped the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts. This made him the first Korean solo artist to achieve this. "Seven" also became the fastest song ever to get over 1 billion streams on Spotify. His next song, "3D", featured Jack Harlow. It reached number five on both the Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. This made Jungkook the first South Korean solo artist to have two songs in the top five on the UK chart.

Early Life and School
Jeon Jung-kook was born in Busan, South Korea, on September 1, 1997. He grew up with his parents and an older brother. He went to Baekyang Elementary and Middle School in Busan. When he started training to become an idol, he moved to Singu Middle School in Seoul.
In 2011, Jungkook tried out for a South Korean talent show called Superstar K in Daegu. He was not chosen for the show. However, seven different entertainment companies offered him a chance to train with them. He decided to join Big Hit Entertainment. He chose them after seeing RM perform. RM is now his bandmate and the leader of BTS.
To improve his dancing, Jungkook went to Los Angeles in the summer of 2012. He trained there with Movement Lifestyle. Before his debut, he appeared in Jo Kwon's "I'm Da One" music video. He was also a backup dancer for the group Glam.
He finished high school at the School of Performing Arts Seoul in 2017. This is a special arts high school. In March 2022, he earned his degree from Global Cyber University. He received the President's Award, which is the highest honor from the school.
Music Career
Becoming a Star with BTS (2013–Present)
Jungkook officially started his music career on June 12, 2013. He debuted as a member of BTS with their single 2 Cool 4 Skool. As part of BTS, he has released three solo songs.
His first solo song, "Begin", was on the 2016 album Wings. It's a pop song about moving to Seoul when he was young to become an idol. It also shows his thanks to his bandmates for helping him.
His second solo song, "Euphoria", came out on April 5, 2018. It's a future bass song. It was part of BTS' "Love Yourself" series. The full song was later on BTS' Love Yourself: Answer album.
His third solo song, "My Time", is an R&B song from the 2020 album Map of the Soul: 7. It talks about missing out on normal teenage experiences because of his career. Both "Euphoria" and "My Time" have been on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart for a very long time.
Jungkook has also helped create songs for BTS. He is credited as the main producer for "Love is Not Over" (2015) and "Magic Shop" (2018).
In October 2018, Jungkook and the other BTS members received the Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit. This is a special award from the President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in. In July 2021, President Moon also made him a Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture. This role helps South Korea connect with the world.
Solo Work and Achievements (2015–Present)
In September 2015, Jungkook joined the "One Dream, One Korea" campaign. He sang with other Korean artists to remember the Korean War. He released his self-produced song "Still With You" for free on SoundCloud in June 2020. This was part of BTS' yearly anniversary celebration.
In February 2022, Jungkook sang "Stay Alive" for the webtoon 7Fates: Chakho. His bandmate Suga produced the song. "Stay Alive" was Jungkook's first solo song to appear on the Hot 100 chart. It also became the first Korean soundtrack song to appear on the UK Singles Chart. He released another self-produced song, "My You", in June 2022.
In November 2022, Jungkook released "Dreamers" for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He performed the song at the opening ceremony with Qatari singer Fahad Al Kubaisi. He was the first Korean artist to sing an official World Cup song and perform at the opening ceremony.
Jungkook became a global ambassador for Calvin Klein in March 2023. His debut solo single "Seven" was released in July 2023. It quickly became a huge hit, reaching number one on several major charts. His second solo single, "3D", came out in September 2023. He also performed as a headliner at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City.
In October, he released "Too Much" with the Kid Laroi and Central Cee. His first solo album, Golden, and a third single, "Standing Next to You", were released in November 2023. Golden broke sales records for a South Korean solo artist. It also debuted high on the Billboard 200 chart in the US.
In June 2024, Big Hit released "Never Let Go" by Jungkook. This was part of BTS' 11th anniversary. A travel reality show called Are You Sure?!, featuring Jungkook and Jimin, started in August 2024 on Disney+. A documentary about his solo journey, I Am Still, premiered in September 2024.
Artistry and Style
Rolling Stone magazine has described Jungkook as a "soulful tenor" singer. A Korean music writer, Kim Min-sook, said his voice is "soft" and good for emotional songs. She also noted he can sing steadily even while dancing. Mary Siroky from Consequence said he has a "clear, dexterous voice built for pop music".
Music critic Kim Young-dae believes Jungkook's singing is a strong part of BTS songs like "Danger" and "Euphoria". He praised Jungkook's singing techniques and how he can express a lot of feeling. In 2023, Rolling Stone listed Jungkook as one of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. They called him "an extremely gifted singer" who can hit high notes easily.
In January 2024, Jungkook became a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association. This group protects the rights of music creators.

Jungkook has said that Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, and Usher are some of his musical inspirations.
Impact and Influence
Jungkook is a very popular celebrity in South Korea. In a 2019 survey by Gallup Korea, he was ranked the third most-loved celebrity. He was also the most-searched male K-pop idol on Google in 2019 and 2020. On YouTube, he was the most searched K-pop idol in 2019 and 2020.
On Tumblr, he was number one on the "Top K-Pop Stars" list for three years in a row. His tweets were among the most retweeted in South Korea in 2018 and globally in 2019 and 2020. Jungkook also set records for the most live stream viewers on V Live. He had 3.7 million viewers in October 2018 and 22 million viewers in March 2021.
Media outlets have given Jungkook the nickname "Sold Out King". This is because items he is seen using often sell out very quickly. These items include shoes, fabric softener, wine, and books. He is also credited with starting the "Modern Hanbok" fashion trend in the Korean entertainment industry. Many celebrities started wearing similar clothes after he was seen wearing them.
In June 2021, a politician used photos of Jungkook to promote the legalization of tattoos in South Korea. In the same year, the mayor of Tagbilaran, Philippines, used images of Jungkook to encourage people to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Jungkook was ranked 9th on Forbes Korea's 2024 Power Celebrity 40 list. He was also named one of the "100 Asian Pacific leaders" who have a big impact on American culture by Gold House. He was recognized as the biggest K-Pop musician in America on the first Billboard K-Pop Artist 100 list.
Personal Life
Since 2018, Jungkook has lived in Hannam-dong, Seoul, South Korea, with his bandmates. In July 2019, he bought an apartment in Yongsan District, Seoul. He later gave this apartment to his older brother in December 2020.
Jungkook's father is Christian and his mother is Buddhist. Jungkook has said he does not follow any particular religious affiliation.
Health and Well-being
In 2017, Jungkook collapsed during a BTS concert in Chile. In 2018, during the band's Love Yourself World Tour, he hurt his heel. This stopped him from dancing. He still performed in the European part of the tour, but he sang while seated.
In November 2019, Jungkook was in a car accident with a taxi. No one was seriously hurt, and they settled the matter peacefully.
Giving Back
In April 2023, Jungkook donated ₩1 billion to Seoul National University Children's Hospital. This money helps pay for treatment for patients from low-income families. It also supports the hospital's care center.
Military Service
On November 22, 2023, Big Hit announced that Jungkook, along with bandmates RM, Jimin, and V, had started the process for their mandatory military service. Jungkook confirmed he would join the military in December. He began his service on December 12, 2023.

- Jungkook also appeared in a short film called BTS Wings Short Film #1 Begin. It was released in September 2016 to promote BTS' fourth studio album Wings.
