Music Career
Joining BTS
Jimin was the last person to join the group that would become BTS. He trained for only six months before making his debut, which was the shortest training period among the members. On June 13, 2013, he officially debuted as a singer and dancer in BTS with their song "No More Dream."
As part of BTS, he released three solo songs: "Lie," "Serendipity," and "Filter."
- "Lie" came out in 2016 on the album Wings. It was described as a dramatic song with deep feelings.
- "Serendipity" was released in 2017 on the album Love Yourself: Her. This song was soft and sweet, talking about the joy and wonder of love.
- "Filter" was part of BTS's 2020 album Map of the Soul: 7. It had a Latin pop feel and showed the different sides of Jimin's personality.
Jimin also helped write and produce the song "Friends" on the Map of the Soul: 7 album. This song was later used in the Marvel Studios movie Eternals.
Both "Serendipity" and "Lie" became very popular, getting over 50 million streams on Spotify by 2018. Jimin was the first Korean artist to have three solo songs each reach over 50 million streams.
In May 2019, Jimin became the first BTS member to have a solo music video reach 100 million views on YouTube with "Serendipity." In February 2020, "Filter" became his first song to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, reaching number 87. It also became number one on the World Digital Song Sales chart. "Filter" was the fastest Korean solo song to reach 20 to 60 million streams on Spotify.
In 2018, Jimin and his bandmates received the Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit from the President of South Korea. This award recognized their efforts in promoting Korean culture around the world. In 2021, the President also appointed Jimin and the other BTS members as "Special Presidential Envoys for Future Generations and Culture." This role helps them lead global discussions and improve South Korea's standing in the world.
Solo Activities
In 2014, Jimin worked with his bandmate Jungkook on a song called "Christmas Day." This was a Korean version of Justin Bieber's "Mistletoe," and Jimin wrote the Korean lyrics. They worked together again in 2017 on a cover of Charlie Puth's "We Don't Talk Anymore." Fans loved their duet, with many saying it was even better than the original.
Jimin also appeared on several TV shows in 2016, such as Hello Counselor and Please Take Care of My Refrigerator. He was also a special host on music shows like Show! Music Core and M Countdown. In December 2016, he performed a dance duet with Taemin from Shinee at the KBS Song Festival.
On December 30, 2018, Jimin released "Promise," his first solo song, for free on BTS's SoundCloud page. It broke records by getting 8.5 million streams in its first 24 hours. By December 2021, it became the most streamed song ever on the platform, with over 300 million streams. "Promise" is a calm pop song that Jimin composed with producer Slow Rabbit. Jimin and bandmate RM wrote the lyrics. On December 24, 2020, Jimin released another solo song called "Christmas Love," which was about his childhood holiday memories. In 2022, he sang "With You" with Ha Sung-woon for the TV drama Our Blues.
In January 2023, Jimin worked with Taeyang on the song "Vibe." This song helped Jimin get his first solo entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 76. He also became a global ambassador for Dior and Tiffany & Co. in 2023. His debut solo album, Face, was released on March 24, 2023. It was a huge success, reaching number one in South Korea and Japan, and number two in the US. The album's songs, "Set Me Free Pt. 2" and "Like Crazy," both entered the Hot 100. "Like Crazy" made history by becoming the first song by a South Korean solo artist to reach number one on that chart.
In May 2023, Jimin was featured on the song "Angel Pt. 1" for the movie Fast X. On December 22, 2023, he released the digital song "Closer Than This" as a gift to BTS fans before he started his military service.

Jimin's second solo album, Muse, was released on July 19, 2024, while he was serving in the military. It included the songs "Smeraldo Garden Marching Band" and "Who." "Who" became Jimin's first song to debut at the top of both of Billboard's global charts. It also became the longest-charting song by a Korean artist on the Billboard Hot 100.
Artistic Style
Jimin's singing voice is often described as soft and sweet. He is known as an amazing dancer in BTS and in K-pop. People often praise his smooth and graceful movements and his charm on stage. In a 2018 documentary, Jimin talked about how he always tries to be perfect in his performances. In 2023, he shared that as a pop artist, he wants to be excellent at both dancing and singing. He also wants to perform many different types of music in a healthy way.
He has said that singer Rain inspired him to become a singer and performer.
