Banks Township is found in the western part of Carbon County. It shares borders with Luzerne County to the north and Schuylkill County to the west. The southern edge of the township generally follows the top of Spring Mountain.
Banks Township completely surrounds the nearby town of Beaver Meadows. However, it is a separate area. Some of the smaller communities within Banks Township include Audenried, Coxes, Junedale, and Tresckow.
Land and Water Features
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that Banks Township covers about 11.62 square miles (30.1 square kilometers) of land. There is no significant water area within the township.
Most of the township's water flows into Black Creek. This creek then flows east into the Lehigh River. However, the Audenried area is different. Its water drains west into Catawissa Creek, which then joins the Susquehanna River.

Getting Around Banks Township

Two main state routes pass through or near Banks Township:
- Route 93 goes through the township and Beaver Meadows. It leads northwest about 3 miles to Hazleton. It also goes southeast about 12 miles to Jim Thorpe, which is the main town for Carbon County.
- Route 309 runs through the very western part of the township, passing through Audenried. This route connects Hazleton to the north with Tamaqua to the south.
