The Baptist Centre is a special building in Northern Ireland. It is home to the Association of Baptist Churches in Ireland (ABC). This association helps connect many Baptist churches across the country.

The Centre also houses important departments like Baptist Missions, Baptist Women, and Baptist Youth. These groups help with different activities for the Baptist community. It is also where the Baptist Theological Centre is located. This includes the Irish Baptist College (IBC), which is a place for learning. You can also find the Irish Baptist College Library and the Irish Baptist Historical Society Archives here.

The building is located at 19 Hillsborough Road, just outside Lisburn. It was built in 2003 and officially opened its doors on May 10, 2003.

What the Baptist Centre Does

The Baptist Centre plays a very important part in the life of the ABC. It also serves the wider community. This building is a great example of a modern church centre. It has many different uses.

Leaders from other Christian groups often visit the Centre. They come from all over Europe to see how it works. The Centre is a big Christian resource in the Lisburn area. Many Christian churches use its facilities for their activities.

About the Building

The Baptist Centre is a large building. It covers about 4,300 square meters (14,000 square feet). It was built specifically for its purpose. This includes space for training and for managing the different groups.

You can find the Centre easily. It is located right off the M1 motorway near Moira.

The Baptist Theological Centre

The Baptist Theological Centre is a key part of the Baptist Centre. It is where the Irish Baptist College is located. This college helps train people for Christian service.

Future Plans for Growth

There is empty land behind the Centre. This land offers plenty of room for the Centre to grow. The Association and the College are getting bigger. Because of this, there are plans for future expansion.

These plans include adding more space. This new space would be for the library, archives, storage, and study areas. These plans were approved in 2008. However, some of these expansion plans were put on hold in 2009. This was due to money challenges faced by the College and the Association.

Where is the Centre Located?

The Baptist Centre has an interesting location. It can be said to be in three different counties.

  • It is in Moira, which is in County Down. Many people from the ABCI often say it is in County Down.
  • Its postal address uses Craigavon. Craigavon is in County Armagh. So, it can also be said to be in County Armagh.
  • The Centre is also located within County Antrim. This means it is also correct to say it is in County Antrim.
