Barbara Pierce Bush was born on November 25, 1981. She is an American activist. She helped start and leads a group called Global Health Corps. This group works to improve health around the world.
Barbara has a twin sister named Jenna. They are the daughters of George W. Bush, who was the 43rd U.S. President. Their mother is Laura Bush, a former First Lady. Barbara is also the granddaughter of former President George H. W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush, who she was named after.

Growing Up and School
Barbara Pierce Bush was born in Dallas, Texas, on November 25, 1981. She and her twin sister, Jenna, went to Preston Hollow Elementary School in Dallas. Their mom, Laura Bush, was active in the school's parent group.
Later, Barbara and Jenna attended The Hockaday School in Dallas. When their father became the Governor of Texas in 1994, they moved. Barbara then went to St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Austin, Texas. She started Austin High School in 1996 and finished there in 2000.
Barbara went to Yale University and earned a degree in Humanities. She was also part of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Later, she earned a master's degree from Harvard Kennedy School.
Helping Others in Africa
Barbara worked at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. Before that, she helped people with AIDS in Africa. She worked in countries like Tanzania, South Africa, and Botswana. This work was part of a program from Baylor College of Medicine.
Her interest in this issue began when she visited Africa with her parents. They were there to launch President Bush's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). This plan aimed to help people with AIDS.
Global Health Corps
Barbara is a co-founder and leader of Global Health Corps. This group is a nonprofit organization focused on public health. Global Health Corps helps young people from different backgrounds. They work to make health care fair for everyone around the world.
In 2009, Global Health Corps received a special award called the Draper Richards Foundation Fellowship. Barbara also became an Echoing Green fellow for her work. In December 2010, she was chosen to speak at a TEDx Brooklyn event. She talked about the important work of Global Health Corps.
Public Life and Views
In 2011, Barbara Bush made a video with the Human Rights Campaign. This group supports LGBT civil rights. In the video, she asked New York State to make same-sex marriage legal. She said, "New York is about fairness and equality. Everyone should have the right to marry the person they love." She joined other children of Republican politicians who supported same-sex marriage.
Barbara and her sister Jenna were often in the news during their father's 2004 presidential campaign. They spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention. They also traveled to different states to support their father. They even had an interview and photo shoot in Vogue.
Barbara joined her mother on trips to other countries. In 2006, they went to Liberia for a presidential inauguration. They also visited Vatican City to meet Pope Benedict XVI.
Unlike many of her family members, Barbara is not a member of the Republican Party. In 2010, she and Jenna told People magazine that they prefer not to pick a political party. They said they are "very independent thinkers." In 2024, Barbara supported and campaigned for Kamala Harris in the presidential election.
Family Life
Barbara and her sister wrote a book together called Sisters First. It was published in 2017 and shares stories from their lives.
On October 7, 2018, Barbara married screenwriter Craig Louis Coyne. They had a small wedding with only 20 guests. It took place at the Bush family home in Kennebunkport, Maine. They chose that date so her grandfather, George H. W. Bush, could attend. He was not well at the time and passed away a month later. They had a larger party for 100 guests six months later. Their daughter was born on September 27, 2021. Their son was born on August 4, 2024.
