Bay Shore is a small community in Michigan, USA. It's not a city, but a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it has official borders and population numbers. Bay Shore sits right on the edge of two counties: Charlevoix County and Emmet County. In 2020, about 687 people lived here.

This community is found along Little Traverse Bay, which is part of Lake Michigan. It's just west of a city called Petoskey. Most of Bay Shore is in Hayes Township. A smaller part stretches into Resort Township.

History of Bay Shore

The land where Bay Shore is today was first owned by Eugene Sly and Nancy Stauffer. The area was known by two names: Bay Side to the north and Bay Shore. The name Bay Shore was chosen when a train station was built there in 1892.

The name "Bay Shore" makes sense because the community is right on the coast of Little Traverse Bay. A post office opened in Bay Shore on July 25, 1892. Eugene Sly was the first postmaster. The community was officially mapped out in 1896 by John Swift. The post office stayed open until September 30, 1965.

Even though Bay Shore no longer has its own post office, people there can still use the Bay Shore 49711 post office box ZIP Code. For the 2010 census, Bay Shore was listed as a new census-designated place. This means it got official boundaries and population numbers for the first time.
