Bear Creek is a small stream located in the state of Missouri, in the United States. It flows through Laclede and Pulaski counties. This creek eventually joins a larger river called the Gasconade River.

Where Does Bear Creek Start and End?

Every stream has a beginning and an end! The beginning of Bear Creek is called its headwaters. You can find its headwaters in Laclede County at these coordinates: 37°39′56″N 92°35′49″W / 37.66556°N 92.59694°W / 37.66556; -92.59694. This spot is just south of Missouri Route 32, about three miles east of the city of Lebanon.

The end of Bear Creek is where it flows into the Gasconade River. This meeting point is called the confluence. The confluence is located at 37°47′56″N 92°24′03″W / 37.79889°N 92.40083°W / 37.79889; -92.40083.

How Does Bear Creek Flow?

From its start, Bear Creek flows generally north. Then, it turns northeast, running alongside Interstate 44. It passes south of a small community called Sleeper.

The stream then goes under Interstate 44 and also under Missouri Route T. This happens southeast of Stoutland. It keeps flowing east and enters Pulaski County. About half a mile later, it joins the Gasconade River, flowing under the Missouri Route 133 bridge, south of Richland.

Why Is It Called Bear Creek?

The name "Bear Creek" comes from the early pioneer settlers who lived in the area. They named the creek because it was a popular hunting ground for bears. Many bears lived there, making it a well-known spot for these animals.
