Bedano is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Ticino region of Switzerland. It's part of the Lugano district. Bedano is known for its beautiful natural surroundings and its interesting history.

Bedano has a long and interesting history.

Early Times and Old Buildings

During the Middle Ages, Bedano was managed by the monastery of S. Ambrogio in Milan. The Bishop of Como also had the right to collect a special tax called a tithe here.

Bedano is part of the parish of Gravesano. You can find two old chapels in the village. The Chapel of Santa Maria was first built in 1365 and later rebuilt before 1636. The S. Rocco chapel dates back to the 16th century.

Mysterious Castle and Famous Families

North of Bedano, you can find the ruins of a small castle. It might have belonged to a powerful family called the Rusca family. When Switzerland was a confederacy, Bedano was part of the Lugano district.

At times, many people from Bedano moved away because life was tough. Bedano is the original home of the Albertolli family, who were famous artists and architects, including Giocondo Albertolli.

Modern Growth and Industry

Like other areas in the Vedeggio valley, Bedano has seen a lot of industrial growth recently. This growth has been helped by a freight train station located nearby in Bioggio.
