Beinn Mhòr is a tall mountain in Scotland. It's the highest peak on the Cowal Peninsula. This area is found west of Loch Eck in Argyll and Bute. Because it stands out so much, it offers amazing views all around!

Beinn Mhòr is part of the beautiful Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. On its lower slopes to the east, you'll find the Benmore Botanic Garden. This garden even has an outdoor center in Benmore House.

Climbing Beinn Mhòr

There are a couple of ways to reach the top of Beinn Mhòr. Both routes offer a great adventure for hikers.

The Southern Route

The easiest way to climb Beinn Mhòr is usually from the south. You start at the end of the public road leading into Glen Massan. From there, it's a short walk into the glen.

Next, you'll climb about 400 meters (about 1,300 feet). This part uses forestry tracks and paths. Eventually, you will come out onto the open hillside.

If you plan to return the same way, remember this spot! There are no paths higher up the mountain. Going into the forest at the wrong place could mean getting lost. The forest here is very steep and thick.

Even without paths, the upper parts of the mountain are gentle. They are mostly covered in short grass. This makes the final climb to the summit quite easy.

The Benmore Botanic Garden Route

Another way to climb Beinn Mhòr is from the car park of Benmore Botanic Garden. This route is a bit longer. A track leads you up the steep grassy slopes of A' Cruach.

You'll then pass over two smaller peaks. These are called Creachan Beag and Creachan Mòr. After that, you reach a wide, flat area. This leads you directly to the summit of Beinn Mhòr.
