Abdul Bilal "Bill" Hamid is an American professional soccer player. He plays as a goalkeeper for USL Championship club Miami FC. He was born on November 25, 1990, in Annandale, Virginia.
Bill Hamid made history as the first player from the D.C. United Academy to join the main team. He became the youngest goalkeeper to win a game in Major League Soccer (MLS) history. He helped his team win the 2013 U.S. Open Cup and was named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2014. He also won the CONCACAF Gold Cup twice with the U.S. national team.

Bill Hamid's Soccer Journey
Starting with D.C. United
Bill Hamid joined D.C. United on September 2, 2009. He was the very first player from their youth academy to sign with the main team. Before this, he almost moved to a team in Scotland called Celtic, but it didn't work out.
He played his first professional game on May 5, 2010. This made him the youngest goalkeeper in MLS history to win a regular season game. He was 19 years and 161 days old. He played in many games for D.C. United in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
In 2011, Bill Hamid had a short trial with an English team called West Bromwich Albion. He trained with them for about 10 days.
Memorable Moments with D.C. United
In 2012, Bill Hamid made 88 saves, which was a record for him. During the playoffs that year, he got a red card in a game. Even so, D.C. United still won the game! After the win, Bill Hamid was very excited. He was filmed shouting, "You can't hold us back!" This phrase became a special saying for D.C. United fans. They even made a scarf with the quote on it.
In 2013, D.C. United won the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Bill Hamid played in the final game, where his team won 1–0. In 2014, D.C. United finished first in their conference. Bill Hamid was recognized for his great play and won the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Award.
Playing in Denmark
After the 2017 season, Bill Hamid's contract with D.C. United ended. On January 1, 2018, he joined a Danish team called Midtjylland. He was a backup goalkeeper there. In his first season, his team won the Danish Superliga, which is the top league in Denmark.
Returning to D.C. United
Bill Hamid came back to D.C. United on August 8, 2018. He first joined on a loan, which means he played for them temporarily. Then, in December 2019, he officially rejoined the team permanently.
He played 10 games in the 2022 MLS season. He had a hand operation in June of that year. After the 2022 season, D.C. United let him become a free agent. He left the team with two club records: 89 shutouts (games where the opponent doesn't score) and 976 saves.
Playing for Other Clubs
On March 20, 2023, Bill Hamid joined USL Championship club Memphis 901. He played for them during the 2023 season. He later left the club in August 2023.
In 2024, Bill Hamid played for Northern Virginia FC in a cup match. He also joined Virginia Dream as a player and a goalkeeping coach. Later in 2024, he joined Maryland Bobcats. Since he joined, the Maryland Bobcats have won two games in a row. He also had two clean sheets in his first two games. The team then won first place in their region.
Joining Miami FC
In February 2025, Bill Hamid joined USL Championship club Miami FC. This move brought him closer to his younger sister, Jasmin Hamid. She plays soccer for Fort Lauderdale United.
Bill Hamid's International Career

Bill Hamid played for the United States' under-18 and under-20 teams. In October 2009, he trained with the main national team. He made his first game for the U.S. national team on January 21, 2012. He kept a shutout, meaning the other team didn't score. The U.S. team won 1–0 against Venezuela. He was the ninth U.S. goalkeeper to not let in a goal in his first international game.
Bill Hamid was part of the team that won the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He also helped the team win the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. On July 15, 2017, he played his first competitive game for the U.S. team. He kept another shutout in a 3–0 win.
He played his last international game on December 9, 2020. The U.S. team won 6–0 against El Salvador.
Bill Hamid's Personal Life
Bill Hamid's parents are from Sierra Leone. He was raised Muslim and follows the tradition of fasting during the Islamic month of Ramadan. He finished high school at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland in 2006.
