History of Bisbee
Bisbee was named after Colonel Andrew Bisbee. He was from Peru, Maine. Colonel Bisbee was a soldier in the Civil War. He moved to Towner County in 1885.
In 1890, county leaders asked him to help get aid for a drought. He was also elected to the North Dakota Senate. Colonel Bisbee gave land for the town of Bisbee. He also donated land for railroads to pass through the area.

Bisbee is a small city. The United States Census Bureau says it covers about 0.26 square miles (0.78 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Bisbee has a humid continental climate. This means it has big changes in temperature during the year. Summers are warm to hot, and sometimes humid. Winters are cold, and can be very cold.
Life in Bisbee
Bisbee was featured in a Newsweek magazine article on September 10, 2001. The article talked about how the town was slowly getting smaller. At that time, even the mayor was thinking of leaving.
Over the years, Bisbee had lost many things. These included movies at Pettsinger's Theater. There were no more root-beer floats at Brannon's Drug and Soda Fountain. You couldn't buy groceries at Dick's Red Owl anymore.
When the article was written, Bisbee did not have a doctor, lawyer, plumber, or priest. The number of people living there had dropped by more than 30 percent in ten years. Only 227 people lived in Bisbee at that time.
