Bishopton is a small village in England. It's located in the Darlington area of County Durham. You can find it to the west of Stockton-on-Tees.
This village began as a farming community. It had rows of cottages and several farms. These buildings formed a long, wide village street, with a green area nearby. The historic St Peter's Church stands right in the middle of the village.

Discover Bishopton's Ancient Castle Hill
About 400 meters south of Bishopton village, you'll find the remains of an old castle. These are called earthworks and are known as Castle Hill. They are located west of Bishopton Beck, a small stream.
This old fort is a motte-and-bailey type. This means it had a raised mound (the motte) with a tower, and a walled courtyard (the bailey) below. It dates back to at least the 12th century. In 1143, during a time of civil war called The Anarchy, the castle was given permission to add battlements. Battlements are the notched walls often seen on castles, used for defense. Castle Hill is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument, which means it's protected for its historical importance.
Learning at Bishopton's Primary School
Bishopton Redmarshall CofE Primary School is located in the north-west part of the village. In 2011, the school had 106 students. These students were aged between 4 and 11 years old.
School inspectors from Ofsted looked at the school in October 2006. They said it was a "good" school. This good rating was confirmed again in June 2010. In August 2011, the school became an Academy. This means it gets funding directly from the government. Since September 2007, Bishopton school has worked closely with Heighington CE Primary School. They are part of a group called a federation.
St Peter's Church: A Historic Village Landmark
St Peter's Church, Bishopton is an active Anglican parish church. It's part of the Church of England. The church is in the Stockton area, within the larger diocese of Durham.
English Heritage, a group that protects historic places, has given the church a Grade II listed building status. This means it's an important building that needs to be preserved.
Sports and Activities in Bishopton
South of Bishopton village, there's a lake. This lake used to be a gravel pit, where gravel was dug out of the ground. Now, it's a popular spot for windsurfing. It's a great place for people to enjoy water sports.
