Blaine Bishop, born on July 24, 1970, is a former professional football player. He played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). He is best known for his time with the Tennessee Titans. The Houston Oilers picked him in the 1993 NFL draft.
Early Life and College Football
Blaine Bishop went to Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. He played football there. After high school, he played college football at St. Joseph's College. Later, he moved to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
At Ball State, Bishop was a very good player. He was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second-team twice. This happened in 1990 and again in 1992. He was also chosen as a team captain in his senior year. During his college career, Bishop made 243 tackles. He also had 12 sacks and one interception.
Professional Football Career
Blaine Bishop was chosen in the eighth round of the 1993 NFL draft. The Houston Oilers picked him as the 214th player overall. He went on to have a very successful career in the NFL.
Bishop was known as a strong-hitting safety. He played for the Oilers, who later became the Tennessee Titans. He was selected for the Pro Bowl four times. These years were 1995, 1996, 1997, and 2000. He was also named an All-Pro player three times.
In 1999, Bishop and the Titans made it to Super Bowl XXXIV. Blaine Bishop started in this big game. However, they lost to the St. Louis Rams. In 2002, he played for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a starting safety there, playing alongside Brian Dawkins.
Life After Football
After he stopped playing football, Blaine Bishop worked in sports media. He briefly provided sports commentary for WTVF "NewsChannel 5" in Nashville, Tennessee. This was often for Titans post-game shows.
Today, Bishop co-hosts a radio show in Nashville. It is called "Blaine and Mickey" with Mickey Ryan. You can hear it on WGFX "104.5 the Zone" on weekdays. He also coaches defense at Davidson Academy. This is a private high school in Nashville. On Tennessee Titans game days, he is part of the Titans Radio broadcast team. He works on the pre-game and post-game shows.
