About Boardman Peak

Boardman Peak is a notable point in the Soldier Mountains. It is southeast of Iron Mountain. The peak is also northwest of Smoky Dome and the town of Fairfield.

Getting to the Top

There are no official trails that lead right to the very top of Boardman Peak. However, some paths pass close by. Getting to the summit is considered a "class 2" climb. This means you might need to use your hands for balance sometimes. It is like walking on uneven ground or scrambling over rocks.

What is Prominence?

Boardman Peak has a "prominence" of over 300 feet (91 m). Prominence means how much a mountain sticks up from the land around it. It is like how tall a mountain is compared to the lowest point connecting it to a higher peak. Boardman Peak is west of a place called Boardman Pass.

Water Around the Peak

Water flows from Boardman Peak in different directions. These streams are important for the local environment.

Northern Slopes

The northern side of Boardman Peak has water flowing into Boardman Creek. This creek then joins the South Fork Boise River.

Southern Slopes

On the southern side, water flows into Salt Log Creek and Bremner Creek. These creeks are part of the South Fork of Lime Creek.

Boardman Lake

Boardman Lake is not directly below the peak. But it is located to the northwest of the mountain. It is a beautiful lake in the area.
