Bonanza is located in southern Klamath County, Oregon. It sits at an elevation of about 4,127 feet (1,258 meters) above sea level. The town is close to the border between Oregon and California.
You can reach Bonanza by taking Oregon Route 70. This road connects to Oregon Route 140. Bonanza is about 21 miles (34 km) from Klamath Falls. It is also about 300 miles (483 km) from Portland, Oregon's largest city.
The Lost River flows right through Bonanza. The town covers a total area of about 0.82 square miles (2.12 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

A Look Back: Bonanza's History
Bonanza is located in a farming area. The town got its name from the Spanish word "bonanza," which means "prosperity" or "good fortune." This name was chosen because of the good springs found nearby. The Bonanza post office first opened in 1875.
J. P. Roberts started the community in 1876. He also opened a store there. Bonanza was officially planned out in 1878. Around the year 1900, Bonanza was one of the most important towns in Klamath County. Only Klamath Falls and Merrill were considered more important. Back then, mail was delivered daily by stagecoach. The main products from the area included cattle, horses, grain, hay, fruits, and vegetables.
Today, Bonanza is still an agricultural community. Many farms grow alfalfa and raise cattle. The Lost River flows near the town center, where the Bonanza Big Springs are located. Sometimes, low water levels in the river can affect farming and local wildlife.
