Parent Retail Zoo

Boost Juice Bars is an Australian company that sells delicious fruit juices and smoothies. It is part of a bigger company called Retail Zoo. Boost Juice started in the year 2000 with its very first store in Adelaide, South Australia. Since then, it has grown a lot and now has stores all over the world, including places in Asia, Europe, South America, and the United Kingdom. Many of these stores are run by other people through a system called franchising.

The Story of Boost Juice

The person who started Boost Juice Bars is named Janine Allis. In 1999, she was on holiday in the United States and noticed that juice bars were becoming very popular. Janine and her husband, Jeff Allis, thought it would be a great idea to bring this trend to Australia.

How Boost Juice Started

In 2000, while Janine Allis was on maternity leave, she opened her first Boost Juice Bar. It was located on King William Street in Adelaide. Just four years later, by the end of 2004, Boost Juice had grown to have 175 stores. These stores were operating across both Australia and New Zealand.

Boost Juice Goes International

In 2007, Boost Juice stores in New Zealand closed down for a while. The company that ran them there had some problems. Later, the stores were sold and became part of another juice company called Tank Juice.

Around the same time, Boost Juice started to expand even more around the world.

In 2008, a big food company called Nestlé teamed up with Boost Juice. They launched a range of fruit smoothies together. This happened as Boost Juice continued to grow in the United Kingdom.

Between 2009 and 2012, there was a Boost Juice store in China. However, it faced many challenges and eventually closed.

Boost Juice on TV

In 2010, Boost Juice celebrated its tenth birthday. To mark this, they launched a new slogan: "Boost the way you feel." That same year, Janine Allis appeared on a TV show called Undercover Boss. On the show, she worked secretly in her own stores to see how things were really going.

In 2015, Janine Allis also became one of the "sharks" on the TV show Shark Tank in Australia. On this show, she listened to people's business ideas and decided if she wanted to invest her money in them.

Boost Juice Bars once tried to buy another juice bar company in Canada called Booster Juice. However, this plan did not work out.

Boost Juice and the Environment

Boost Juice has changed its approach to cups over the years to be more environmentally friendly.

Cups and Recycling

When Boost Juice first started in 2000, they used Styrofoam cups. They chose these cups because they were cheaper and used fewer raw materials than paper cups. The company also said that Styrofoam cups could be recycled. However, most city councils in Australia do not recycle soft Styrofoam cups. This means that many of these cups ended up in landfills.

In late 2013, Boost Juice decided to switch from Styrofoam cups to paper cups. They made this change for a few reasons:

  • The Styrofoam cups looked old-fashioned.
  • Paper was seen as a better choice for the environment, even though they had said Styrofoam was good before.
  • The new paper cups felt nicer to hold.

Reusable Cups

Soon after starting, Boost Juice introduced an "Enviro-Cup." This was a reusable cup that customers could bring back to the store again and again. If you used an Enviro-Cup, you would get a discount on your drink.

In 2017, Boost updated their reusable cup. They called the new one the "Fill-Up-Cup." It was still the same size and offered the same discount. This new cup was designed to look better and be spill-proof.

Later, in late 2018, Boost Juice introduced even more reusable options. They started selling a Reusable Stainless Steel Cup and a Stainless Steel Straw with a cleaner kit. These options help customers reduce waste even more.
