Bothey (pronounced "Boh-tay") is a small village in Belgium. It's part of a bigger town called Gembloux. You can find Bothey in the province of Namur, which is in the Wallonia region of Belgium.
Before 1977, Bothey was its own separate town. But then, it joined with Gembloux to become one larger municipality. This was part of a big change when many smaller towns in Belgium merged together.
A Look Back in Time
The Battle of Ligny
Bothey has an interesting history, especially from a famous battle. On June 16, 1815, a big fight called the Battle of Ligny happened nearby. This battle was a key part of the Napoleonic Wars.
During the Battle of Ligny, Bothey village was very important. It was on the far left side of the Prussian army's battle line. A small stream connected Bothey to another nearby hamlet called Villeret.
The Prussian army held onto Bothey throughout the entire battle. This shows how important the village's location was during the fighting.
