Gembloux is a city and municipality in Wallonia, Belgium. It's located in the province of Namur. The city is known for its history and its special university.
As of January 1, 2006, about 21,964 people lived in Gembloux. The total area of the municipality is 95.86 square kilometers. This means there are about 229 people living in each square kilometer. The mayor of Gembloux is Benoît Dispa.
The municipality of Gembloux includes several smaller areas. These are called districts. Some of these districts are Beuzet, Bossière, Bothey, and Corroy-le-Château. Other districts include Ernage, Grand-Leez, Grand-Manil, Isnes, Lonzée, Mazy, and Sauvenière.
Gembloux is famous for its Agricultural University. This university teaches about farming and related sciences. It is located in the old Gembloux Abbey, which is a very old building from the tenth century. The city is also known for its cutlery, which means making knives and other cutting tools.

Gembloux's Rich History
The main part of Gembloux city grew around the Gembloux Abbey. This abbey was built in the tenth century, which is over 1,000 years ago! It was a very important place back then.
Battles Near Gembloux
Gembloux has been the site of important battles. In 1578, the Battle of Gembloux happened nearby. This was during the Eighty Years' War. This war was fought for independence in the Netherlands.
Much later, in May 1940, two more battles took place close to Gembloux. These were the Battle of Hannut and the Battle of the Gembloux Gap. These were tank battles during World War II. They were part of the larger Battle of France.
