History of Bradfordsville
The area where Bradfordsville is now was first called Centerville. People thought it was the very center of Kentucky. Even today, the real center of the state is still quite close by.
Later, the settlement got a new name: Bradford's Mill. This was because of Peter Bradford. He had a special mill there that could both saw wood and grind grain. In 1834, a post office was opened, and the name changed again to "Bradfordsville."
Geography and Location
Bradfordsville is in the southeastern part of Marion County. It sits in the Rolling Fork Valley. This valley is where two smaller rivers, the North Rolling Fork and the Big South Fork, meet. They form the main Rolling Fork River.
The Rolling Fork River flows northwest. It eventually joins the Salt River, which then flows into the Ohio River. Bradfordsville is mostly surrounded by hills. The Muldraugh Hill escarpment, a steep slope, rises to the south.
The city is centered around two main roads. These are Kentucky Route 337 (Main Street) and Kentucky Route 49 (Liberty Road). Route 337 goes northeast to Gravel Switch and southwest to Mannsville. Route 49 goes southeast to Liberty and northwest to Lebanon. Lebanon is the main town in Marion County.
