Bradley Austin Chubb (born June 24, 1996) is an American professional football player. He plays as a linebacker for the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the NC State Wolfpack. The Denver Broncos chose him in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft.

Early Life

Bradley Chubb played both linebacker and defensive end in high school. He attended Hillgrove High School in Georgia. He helped his team reach the state quarterfinals in his senior year. On June 24, 2013, he decided to play college football at North Carolina State University. Other colleges like Duke and West Virginia also wanted him to play for them.

College Career

As a freshman, Chubb played mostly on special teams. Before his second year, he changed his position from outside linebacker to defensive end. He then became a starter for the team.

In his junior year, he continued to be a starter and a team leader. He was one of the best players in the Atlantic Coast Conference for "tackles for loss." This means he stopped opposing players behind their starting line. During the 2016 Independence Bowl, he sacked the Vanderbilt quarterback. A "sack" is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback before they can throw the ball.

In his senior season, Chubb had a memorable moment after a big win against Florida State. He ran to the middle of the field and showed his excitement. He later apologized for this action. He also had a playful moment in a game against Clemson. He took the opposing quarterback's towel a few times. After the game, he met with officials but did not get a penalty. A week later, playing against Boston College, Chubb made two and a half sacks. This made him the all-time sack leader for the NC State Wolfpack. He also became the Wolfpack leader in tackles for loss in the same game.

During his final year at NC State, Chubb had ten sacks. Almost a third of his 72 tackles were for a loss. His 23 tackles for loss put him second among all NCAA Division I players in 2017. After the season, he won several awards. These included ACC Defensive Player of the Year and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. He was also named a first-team All-American.

Denver Broncos

2018 Season

The Denver Broncos picked Chubb as the fifth overall player in the 2018 NFL Draft. He was the first defensive end chosen that year. In June 2018, the Broncos signed Chubb to a four-year contract worth over $27 million.

Chubb started as an outside linebacker for the Broncos. He played alongside famous player Von Miller. In his first game, he had three tackles and half a sack. He got his first full sack in Week 3. On October 14, 2018, he had a great game with three sacks against the Los Angeles Rams. The next week, he had two sacks and forced a fumble. Because of his strong play, he was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for October. He played in all 16 games in 2018. He finished the season with 60 tackles and 12 sacks. He was also named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. Other players in the NFL ranked him 82nd among the top 100 players of 2019.

2019 Season

In Week 4 of the 2019 season, Chubb got his first sack of the year. Later in that game, he suffered an injury to his left knee. It was a partial tear of his ACL, which meant his season ended early.

2020 Season

Chubb returned in 2020. In Week 4, he had two and a half sacks against the New York Jets. On December 21, 2020, Chubb was chosen to play in the 2021 Pro Bowl. The Pro Bowl is an all-star game for the best players in the NFL. In the 2020 season, Chubb played in 14 games. He finished with 7.5 sacks and 42 tackles. He was ranked 40th among the top 100 NFL players of 2021 by his fellow players.

2021 Season

In April 2021, the Broncos kept Chubb for another year, guaranteeing him a salary of over $12 million for the 2022 season. He had ankle surgery in September 2021 and was placed on injured reserve. He came back to play in November. He played in seven games, making 21 tackles and getting one interception.

Miami Dolphins

On November 1, 2022, the Broncos traded Chubb to the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins also got a future draft pick. In return, the Broncos received a player and two future draft picks. After the trade, Chubb signed a new five-year contract with the Dolphins worth $110 million. He finished the 2022 season with eight sacks and 39 tackles.

On January 30, 2023, Chubb was named to his second Pro Bowl. He was chosen as a replacement player.

In Week 15 of the 2023 season, Chubb had an amazing game against the New York Jets. He recorded seven tackles, three sacks, and forced two fumbles. He also recovered one fumble. For this great performance, he was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week. However, in Week 17, he suffered another ACL tear in his knee. This injury ended his season.

On July 18, 2024, Chubb was placed on the "physically unable to perform" (PUP) list. This means he is recovering from his injury and cannot play at the start of the season.
