Every year, on the first Friday in August, Braham celebrates Pie Day. This fun event includes many activities. You can find craft sales, listen to music, and enjoy food stands. There are also games and entertainment for everyone. Of course, there are many different types of delicious pie to try!
How Pie Day Started
Braham became famous for its pie in the 1930s and 1940s. People traveling to Duluth would often take a "shortcut" through Braham. They would stop at the Park Cafe, which was known for its amazing pies.
In 1990, the former Governor of Minnesota, Rudy Perpich, officially called Braham the "Pie Capital of Minnesota." Pie Day began in July 1990 as a small ice-cream social. It was a way to raise money for good causes. In 1992, the Isanti County Historical Society took over the event. They changed the date to the first Friday in August.
