Cé Bhréannain is the only official name.

Cé Bhréannain (pronounced "Kay VRAY-nan"), also known as Brandon, is a charming village in County Kerry, Ireland. It's located on the northern coast of the Dingle Peninsula. You can find it right at the foot of Mount Brandon, next to the beautiful Brandon Bay.

This village is part of a special area called a Gaeltacht. This means that the main language spoken here is Irish, not English. It's a great place to experience Irish culture and language!

Every year, the village celebrates an ancient Celtic harvest festival. It's called Féile Lughnasa and takes place on the last Sunday of July. This celebration has been happening for a very long time, even before Christianity came to Ireland.

Exciting Water Sports

Brandon Bay is one of the best places in Ireland for water sports, especially windsurfing. It's known for its great waves and strong winds.

Windsurfing in Brandon Bay

This area has hosted big professional windsurfing events in the past. These include the PWA wave sailing events in 2000, 2001, and 2002. There are also several windsurfing schools here. They offer lessons for everyone, from total beginners to advanced riders.

Most of the windsurfing action happens around Maharees. This is a sandy area between Brandon Bay and Tralee Bay.

Best Spots for Windsurfing

  • Sandy Bay: This spot is perfect for beginners. The water is calm and shallow, making it easy to learn.
  • Scraggane Bay: If you're a bit more experienced, Scraggane Bay is great for practicing on flat water.
  • Brandon Bay: For advanced windsurfers who love big waves, Brandon Bay itself offers exciting challenges.

Surfing in the Maharees

Besides windsurfing, surfing is also becoming very popular in the Maharees. The waves here can get really big, offering some of the best surfing conditions in Ireland.

Friends Across the Sea

Cloghane and Brandon (An Clochán agus Bhréanainn) are "twin towns" with a village in France. They are officially linked with the village of Plozévet. This means they share cultural exchanges and friendly connections.
