Brandon Hogan (born April 1, 1988) is a former American football player. He played as a cornerback, a defensive position, and also as a wide receiver and quarterback during his career. Hogan played college football at West Virginia University before being drafted into the NFL.

Early Life and High School Football

Brandon Hogan grew up in Manassas, Virginia. He played football at Osbourn High School, where he became a well-known player. As a junior, Hogan showed off his skills. He passed for over 2,000 yards and scored 18 touchdowns. Overall, he gained more than 3,000 yards and scored 36 touchdowns that season.

In his senior year, Hogan continued to shine. He passed for 2,430 yards and ran for 1,781 yards. He scored an amazing 59 total touchdowns. Hogan led his team, Osbourn, to an undefeated AAA Division 6 State Championship. Because of his great performance, he was named All-Metro by The Washington Post and also received all-state honors.

Many colleges wanted Brandon Hogan to play for them. He received scholarship offers from several universities. These included West Virginia University, University of Kentucky, and University of Maryland. Even though he played quarterback in high school, most colleges saw him as a future cornerback. After visiting West Virginia, Hogan decided to accept their scholarship offer.

College Career at West Virginia

Freshman Season (2007)

When Brandon Hogan joined West Virginia University in 2007, he was expected to play as a defensive back. However, for his first season, he played as a slot receiver. He caught 12 passes for 67 yards. Hogan played in over 225 plays during the season. In one game against ECU, he had his best game with six catches for 44 yards.

Sophomore Season (2008)

In April 2008, Hogan started spring practices very well. In one scrimmage, he had six catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a touchdown, scoring twice. During the Gold & Blue Spring Game, Hogan led all receivers with 6 catches for 49 yards. But as fall practice began, Hogan switched positions. He moved from receiver to cornerback, which was the position colleges first thought he would play.

Hogan made his first start as a cornerback against Marshall University. He made four tackles and recovered a fumble in that game. In a win against Rutgers, he had five tackles. He then had four tackles against Syracuse and three tackles against Auburn.

In a game against Connecticut, Hogan had three tackles and recovered another fumble. He also made his first two career interceptions, returning them for 50 yards. In a close game against Cincinnati, Hogan had nine tackles and broke up two passes. He led his team with nine tackles in the final regular season game against USF. However, he missed the Meineke Car Care Bowl due to an illness. His teammates showed their support by holding up his #22 jersey before the game.

Hogan finished his first season as a cornerback with 60 tackles. He also had three interceptions, seven pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries. He played in 12 games and started 9 of them. He was tied for the team lead in interceptions. Hogan was recognized for his strong play, earning Defensive Champion honors four times.

Professional Career

Carolina Panthers (2011–2012)

In the 2011 NFL draft, the Carolina Panthers chose Brandon Hogan as the 98th overall pick. He was initially placed on a special list because of a knee injury. But on November 8, 2011, he was healthy enough to join the team's main roster.

On October 29, 2012, the Carolina Panthers released Brandon Hogan from the team.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2014)

On April 8, 2014, Brandon Hogan signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. This team plays in the Canadian Football League.
