Brandon Hogan was an American professional football player. He played as a defensive back for the Carolina Panthers in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the West Virginia Mountaineers. The Panthers chose him in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL draft.

Brandon Hogan's Early Life and High School Football
Brandon Hogan played football at Osbourn High School. He was a very talented player, which caught the attention of many colleges. As a junior, he threw for over 2,000 yards and scored 18 touchdowns. He also gained over 3,000 total yards and 36 touchdowns that season.
In his senior year, Hogan threw for 2,430 yards and ran for 1,781 yards. He scored an amazing 59 touchdowns in total. He led Osbourn High School to win an undefeated AAA Division 6 State Championship. Hogan was recognized as an All-Metro player by The Washington Post and also made the all-state team.
Many colleges offered Hogan scholarships to play football. These included West Virginia University, University of Kentucky, and University of Maryland. Even though he played quarterback in high school, colleges saw him as a future cornerback. Hogan decided to accept the scholarship offer from West Virginia.
College Football Career at West Virginia
Freshman Season: Playing as a Receiver
When Brandon Hogan started at West Virginia University in 2007, he was expected to play as a defensive back. However, for his first season, he played as a slot receiver. He caught 12 passes for 67 yards during the season.
Hogan played in over 225 plays that year. In one game against ECU, he had his best game with six catches for 44 yards.
Sophomore Season: Switching to Cornerback
In April 2008, Hogan showed great skill during spring practices. He had six catches for 67 yards and scored a touchdown in one scrimmage. He also ran for a touchdown, getting 82 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns.
During the Gold & Blue Spring Game, Hogan led all receivers with 6 catches for 49 yards. But as fall practice began, Hogan moved from receiver to cornerback. This was the position he was first expected to play when he joined West Virginia.
Key Games and Achievements as a Cornerback
Hogan made his first start as a cornerback in a 27–3 win against Marshall. In that game, he made four tackles and recovered a fumble. He continued to play well, making 5 tackles in a win over Rutgers and 4 tackles against Syracuse.
In a 35–13 victory over Connecticut, Hogan had 3 tackles and recovered another fumble. He also made his first two career interceptions, returning them for 50 yards. In a close game against Cincinnati, Hogan had 9 tackles and broke up two passes. He led his team with 9 tackles in the final game against USF.
Hogan missed the Meineke Car Care Bowl due to a personal health issue. His teammates showed their support by holding up his #22 jersey before the game.
Sophomore Season Statistics and Honors
As a sophomore, Hogan finished his first season playing cornerback with 60 tackles. He also had 3 interceptions, seven pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries. He played in 12 games and started 9 of them.
Hogan tied for the team lead in interceptions and was sixth in tackles. He earned the WVU's Defensive Champion honor four times. He also received the Special Teams Champion honor once.
Professional Football Career
Joining the Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers chose Brandon Hogan as the 98th overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft. He was initially placed on a special list because of a knee injury. However, he was later added to the team's main roster on November 8, 2011.
On October 29, 2012, the Carolina Panthers decided to release Brandon Hogan from their team.
Playing in the Canadian Football League
On April 8, 2014, Hogan signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. This team plays in the Canadian Football League.
