Brandon Montour (born April 11, 1994) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He plays as a defenceman for the Seattle Kraken in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Anaheim Ducks chose Montour in the second round of the 2014 NHL entry draft. He was the 55th player picked overall. Brandon Montour won the famous Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in 2024.

Brandon Montour's Early Life
Brandon Montour is from the Mohawk people. He spent part of his childhood in Ohsweken, a village in the Six Nations of the Grand River reserve. His father is First Nations.
Montour lived in Tilbury, Ontario, for eight years. He went to elementary school there. Later, he moved to Ohsweken and attended Assumption College School in Brantford, Ontario.
Brandon also played lacrosse when he was younger. He played in Windsor and then with the Six Nations Rebels. He even won a big championship called the Minto Cup with the Six Nations Arrows. He played lacrosse with Nick Ritchie, who later became his teammate in the NHL.
Brandon Montour's Hockey Journey
Montour started playing minor ice hockey in Cambridge, Ontario. He joined the Brantford Eagles in 2010. After that, he played for the Caledonia Corvairs for one season.
He then played for the Waterloo Black Hawks in the United States Hockey League (USHL). He also played one season for the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He became the highest player drafted from their school program. The Anaheim Ducks picked him in the second round of the 2014 NHL draft.
Playing for the Anaheim Ducks
Brandon Montour started his professional career at age 21. He played for the Norfolk Admirals, which was a team linked to the Anaheim Ducks. This was at the end of the 2014–15 season. He then played the whole 2015–16 season for the San Diego Gulls. This team was also connected to the Ducks.
Montour was chosen for the AHL All-Star game two years in a row. He played very well for the Gulls, getting 21 points in just 25 games.
He joined the Anaheim Ducks in the NHL on December 28, 2016. He played his first NHL game the next day against the Calgary Flames. Montour scored his first NHL goal on February 6, 2017. He finished that season with two goals and four assists in 27 games. He also helped the team with seven assists in the 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs.
Montour played the entire 2017–18 season with the Ducks. He scored a personal best of 32 points in 80 games. After that season, the Ducks signed him to a new two-year contract.
Time with the Buffalo Sabres
Montour started the 2018–19 season with the Ducks. He was their top defenceman with 25 points in 62 games. However, the Ducks were not doing well. So, on February 24, 2019, Montour was traded to the Buffalo Sabres. The Ducks received Brendan Guhle and a first-round draft pick in return.
Joining the Florida Panthers
On April 10, 2021, Montour was traded again. This time, he went to the Florida Panthers. The Panthers gave up a third-round draft pick for him.
After signing a three-year contract with Florida, Montour had an amazing 2022–23 season. He scored 16 goals and 73 points, which was almost double his previous best. His 73 points tied him for fifth among all defencemen in the league. He also scored five goals in seven games during the first round of the 2023 playoffs. In the 2024 playoffs, Montour helped the Panthers win their first-ever Stanley Cup.
Moving to the Seattle Kraken
On July 1, 2024, Montour signed a big seven-year contract with the Seattle Kraken. The deal was worth $49.98 million. On October 29, 2024, he scored his first career hat trick. This means he scored three goals in one game. It was a natural hat trick, meaning he scored all three goals in a row. The Kraken won that game 8–2 against the Montreal Canadiens.
On March 12, 2025, Montour made NHL history. He scored the fastest overtime goal ever, just 4 seconds after the game started in overtime. This happened against the Montreal Canadiens.

On April 29, 2019, Brandon Montour was chosen to play for Team Canada. This was for the 2019 IIHF World Championship. On May 13, he got injured during a game against Slovakia. He could not play for the rest of the tournament. Canada went on to win the silver medal. He also played for Canada in the 2025 World Championship, where they finished 5th.
