History of Braselton
The first people to settle permanently in Braselton arrived in 1884. The town got its name from Harrison Braselton. He was a farmer who married Susan Hosch, whose father owned a large plantation.
Harrison Braselton bought 786 acres (318 ha) of land north of the Hosch Plantation. This land later became known as Braselton. The state government of Georgia officially made Braselton a town in 1916.
In 1989, a famous actress from Georgia named Kim Basinger and some other investors bought a large part of the town. They hoped to turn it into a place where tourists would love to visit. Later, in 1995, they sold the land.
Geography and Location
Braselton covers a total area of about 13.31 square miles (34.48 km²). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water. The town has grown quite a bit over the years by adding nearby areas.
Braselton is close to several other towns. While it shares mailing addresses with places like Gainesville and Flowery Branch, these are not its official city limits. However, it does share a ZIP code and borders the city limits of Hoschton.
The famous Road Atlanta race track is located just north of Braselton, even though it has a Braselton mailing address.
