Brian Herman Thomas Redman (born 9 March 1937) is a retired British racing driver famous for his success in sports car racing. He is considered one of the best endurance racers of all time. Endurance races are very long races that test how long a car and driver can last.

Redman raced in almost every type of motorsports, including Formula One. He won the American Formula 5000 championship three times in a row from 1974 to 1976. He also won the IMSA Camel GTP Championship in 1981.

Throughout his career, he won many famous endurance races. These include the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Daytona twice each. He also has four wins at the famous Spa-Francorchamps track in Belgium. Even today, he still participates in historic car races.

Racing Career

Brian Redman's career was full of amazing victories, powerful cars, and incredible comebacks. He raced for famous teams like Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren, and Shadow.

Redman competed in 15 Formula One World Championship races. He made his debut on January 1, 1968. In the 1968 Spanish Grand Prix, he finished in third place, which was a great achievement.

Later that year, he had a serious accident at the Belgian Grand Prix. The suspension on his car broke, causing a crash that left him with a badly broken arm. Despite this, he returned to racing. He scored points in 1972 by finishing fifth in both the Monaco and German Grand Prix races while driving for McLaren.

While he was a skilled F1 driver, Redman truly shined in sports car racing. He drove for the John Wyer Gulf team in a Ford GT40 and later became a driver for the Porsche and Ferrari factory teams.

He won some of the world's toughest races multiple times, including:

  • Spa 1000 Kilometres (5 times)
  • Nürburgring 1000 Kilometres (3 times)
  • 24 Hours of Daytona (2 times)
  • 12 Hours of Sebring (2 times)
  • Targa Florio (1 time)

These victories proved he was a master of endurance racing, able to drive fast and consistently for many hours.
