Brighton is a village in Illinois, United States. It is mostly in Macoupin County and a small part is in Jersey County. In 2020, about 2,221 people lived there. The mayor of Brighton is Matthew P. Kasten.
Brighton is also part of the Metro East area. This area is near St. Louis and is a busy place with many towns.

History of Brighton
Brighton is a small community with a long history. It started in the early 1800s. At that time, settlers began turning the wild prairie land into farms.
The village got its name from Brighton, Massachusetts. A post office opened in Brighton in 1837. The village officially became a town in 1869. Brighton is proud of its historic museum, which has a five-star rating. Today, Brighton has two restaurants and one traffic light.
Geography of Brighton
Brighton is located in the southwestern part of Macoupin County. It also stretches into the eastern part of Jersey County. The main part of the village is in Macoupin County. Some people living in rural Madison County also have Brighton mailing addresses.
Two main roads, Illinois Route 111 and Illinois Route 267, run together through the west side of Brighton. These roads go north about 9 miles (14 km) to Medora. They go south about 6 miles (10 km) to Godfrey.
Carlinville, which is the county seat for Macoupin County, is about 26 miles (42 km) northeast. Jerseyville, the county seat for Jersey County, is about 13 miles (21 km) northwest.
The village of Brighton covers a total area of about 1.96 square miles (5.08 km2). Most of this area, about 1.92 square miles (4.97 km2), is land. The rest, about 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2), is water.
