Brimson is a small, quiet community in Minnesota, United States. It's not a city or town with its own government. Instead, it's an "unincorporated community," meaning it's part of a larger area called Ault Township in Saint Louis County. Only about 40 people live here!

Brimson is located in a beautiful natural area. It's about 44 miles (or about an hour's drive) northeast of the city of Duluth. You can find it near where two county roads, Highway 44 and County Road 547 (also known as Brimson Road), meet. The community is also about 27 miles northwest of Two Harbors.

Nature is all around Brimson. You'll find Indian Lake and the Cloquet River very close by. The area is also part of the Cloquet Valley State Forest, which is a huge natural space. The even bigger Superior National Forest is also not far away.

Even though it's a small place, Brimson has its own volunteer fire department. This group of brave volunteers helps keep the community safe. Since there isn't a public water system, the fire department has to bring water in by truck when they need it.

Several other small communities are close to Brimson. These include Rollins, Fairbanks, Bassett, Petrel, Toimi, and Wales.

History of Brimson

Brimson has been around for a while! It got its first post office way back in 1897. The community was named after a railroad official named W. H. Brimson. He must have been an important person in the area's early days.

The number of people living in Brimson has changed over the years. In 1920, there were only 27 residents. By 1940, the population had grown quite a bit to 104 people. Today, it's a smaller community with about 40 residents.

Climate in Brimson

Brimson experiences a "Humid continental climate." This means it has four distinct seasons. Summers are warm, and winters are very cold, often with lots of snow. You'll see big changes in temperature throughout the year.
