Bronte Campbell OAM (born May 14, 1994) is an Australian swimmer who competes all over the world. She is a four-time Olympian and has won three Olympic gold medals. In 2015, she became the World Champion in both the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle events.

Her older sister, Cate, is also a famous swimmer. In 2012, Bronte and Cate became the first Australian sisters to be on the same Olympic swimming team since 1972. They are also the first sisters from Australia to ever swim in the same Olympic event. Together, they won gold medals in the 4x100 meter freestyle relay at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics.

Early Life and Family

Bronte Campbell was born in Blantyre, Malawi. She is the second of five children. Her parents are Eric, an accountant, and Jenny, a nurse. She has an older sister, Cate, two younger sisters, Jessica and Abigail, and a younger brother, Hamish.

Her mother, Jenny, was a synchronised swimmer and taught all four of her daughters how to swim. In 2001, the family moved to Australia. Bronte and Cate started swimming at the Indooroopilly Swimming Club in Brisbane. They are still coached by Simon Cusack at the Commercial Swimming Club.

Swimming Career

Bronte's swimming talent showed early. In 2009, she won a gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival. Two years later, in 2011, she won another gold medal in the same event at the World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru.

2012 London Olympics

At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Bronte competed in the women's 50-meter freestyle. She and her sister Cate both swam in the same heat. They both qualified for the semi-finals, making it a special moment for the sisters.

2013 World Championships

At the 2013 Australian Swimming Championships, Bronte won silver medals in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle. She finished just behind her sister Cate in both races. This earned her a spot at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships. There, she won a silver medal with Cate, Emma McKeon, and Alicia Coutts in the 4x100 meter freestyle relay.

The 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Russia, was a huge success for Bronte. She won three gold medals and one bronze medal. She became the world champion in both the 100-meter freestyle and the 50-meter freestyle.

She also won a gold medal as part of the 4x100 meter freestyle relay team. The Australian team beat the teams from the Netherlands and the United States. She added a bronze medal in the 4x100 meter medley relay.

2016 Rio Olympics

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Bronte won a gold medal with the Australian 4x100 meter freestyle relay team. The team also set a new world record. Even though she was the world champion in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle, she finished 7th and 4th in those individual events.

2018 Commonwealth Games

At the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Australia, Bronte had a fantastic competition. She won gold medals in the 100-meter freestyle, the 4x100 meter freestyle relay, and the 4x100 meter medley relay. She also won a silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle.

2021 Tokyo Olympics

In 2021, Bronte was featured in a documentary series called Head Above Water, which followed four Australian swimmers. She then competed in her third Olympic Games in Tokyo. She won another gold medal in the women's 4x100 meter freestyle relay and a bronze medal in the mixed 4x100 meter medley relay.

2024 Paris Olympics

After taking a break from swimming, Bronte returned to training with a new coach. In June 2024, she qualified for her fourth Olympic Games in Paris. She was part of the women's 4x100 meter freestyle relay team that won a gold medal. This made her one of only five Australian swimmers to compete in four Olympics.

Life Outside the Pool

Bronte has a degree in Business from the Queensland University of Technology. She also started a business called Earthletica, which makes activewear that is good for the environment.

She is also a talented poet. She often writes poems and reads them to her teammates before big competitions to inspire them. In 2022, she appeared on the TV show The Celebrity Apprentice Australia.
