Bruce Johnson (born December 18, 1987) is a former American football player. He played as a cornerback for teams in both the National Football League (NFL) in the U.S. and the Canadian Football League (CFL) in Canada. He played college football at the University of Miami and high school football at Suwannee High School in Live Oak, Florida.

High School Football Star

Bruce Johnson was a standout player in high school. In 2004, during his senior year, he played both cornerback (a defensive position) and wide receiver (an offensive position). On defense, he made 44 solo tackles and had two interceptions. On offense, he caught 39 passes for 546 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Because of his great performance, he was named District Player of the Year. Experts ranked him as one of the top 20 cornerbacks coming out of high school. He chose to play college football at the University of Miami.

Professional Football Career

New York Giants

After the 2009 NFL draft, Bruce Johnson was signed by the New York Giants. He joined the team as an undrafted free agent, meaning he wasn't chosen in the draft but was still picked up by a team.

On September 20, 2009, he made a big play against the Dallas Cowboys. He intercepted a pass from quarterback Tony Romo and ran it back 34 yards for a touchdown. This was the first defensive touchdown ever scored in the new Cowboys Stadium.

Later that season, on December 21, 2009, he got his second interception. This happened during a Monday Night Football game against the Washington Redskins. He returned the ball for 49 yards. He finished his first year with 46 total tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, eight passes defended, two interceptions, and one touchdown.

After a strong first year, Bruce Johnson faced some challenges. In 2010, he played in only six games because he had knee surgery. He then missed the entire 2011 season due to a serious injury to his Achilles tendon, which happened before the season even started.

Personal Life

Bruce Johnson is related to another football player, Kelly Jennings. Kelly Jennings was also a cornerback and played for the Miami Hurricanes, just like Bruce.
