Bucky Covington, born William Joel Covington III on November 8, 1977, is an American country music singer. He became famous after finishing eighth on the TV show American Idol in its fifth season. In 2006, he signed with Lyric Street Records to make music. His first album, named Bucky Covington, came out in 2007. It quickly became number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Three songs from it, "A Different World", "It's Good to Be Us", and "I'll Walk", became big hits. Later, other songs like "I Want My Life Back" and "A Father's Love (The Only Way He Knew How)" were released. These songs were also on his 2012 album, Good Guys.

About Bucky Covington

Early Life and Family

Bucky Covington was born on November 8, 1977, in Rockingham, North Carolina. He has an identical twin brother named Robert David "Rocky" Covington. His nickname "Bucky" comes from his grandfather. He went to Scotland High School and finished in 1996. He used to work at a body shop in Rockingham.

When Bucky was 18, he taught himself to play the guitar. He started performing in clubs. He can also play the bass guitar and drums. Bucky writes his own songs too. He performs both country and rock music. His brother Rocky is also a musician and used to be the lead singer for a band called Swamp Cat.

After his time on American Idol, Bucky bought a house in Franklin, Tennessee, near Nashville. He shared it with Rocky and Rocky's wife. Rocky also joined Bucky's band as the drummer. Bucky got engaged to Katherine Cook in 2011. On October 10, 2014, Bucky and Katherine had a daughter named Kennedy Taylor Covington.

His Time on American Idol

In 2005, Bucky and his twin brother Rocky both tried out for American Idol. Bucky was chosen to be one of the top twelve singers. He performed several songs during the competition. On April 11, 2006, Bucky was eliminated from the show, finishing in eighth place.

First Album: Bucky Covington

After American Idol, Bucky Covington went on a Christmas music tour in 2006. He was the first singer from his Idol season to go on a big concert tour. He signed a music deal with Lyric Street Records. His first song, "A Different World", was released in January 2007.

His first album, Bucky Covington, came out on April 17, 2007. Many people liked it. It sold 61,000 copies in its first week and reached number one on the Top Country Albums chart. This was the best start for a new male country singer's album since Billy Ray Cyrus's album in 1992. Three songs from this album became popular hits: "A Different World" (number six), "It's Good to Be Us" (number eleven), and "I'll Walk" (number ten).

Later Albums: I'm Alright and Good Guys

In 2009, Bucky started working on his second album, which was going to be called I'm Alright. The first song from it, "I Want My Life Back", came out in April 2009. He also released a cover of Nickelback's song "Gotta Be Somebody". In March 2010, another song, "A Father's Love (The Only Way He Knew How)", was released.

The album I'm Alright was planned for release in April 2010. However, his record label, Lyric Street Records, closed down. Bucky then signed with E1 Music in 2011. He released his second studio album, Good Guys, on September 11, 2012. Two songs from this album were "I Wanna Be That Feeling" and "Drinking Side of Country".
