Burg im Leimental is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It's located in the Laufen district, which is part of the canton of Basel-Country.

History of Burg im Leimental
Burg im Leimental has a long history. It was first mentioned way back in 1168. Back then, it was called Biedertan. This name actually referred to an old castle nearby, Alt-Biederthal Castle.
Over the years, the town's name changed a few times. In 1520, it was known as Bietterthal. Later, in 1632, it became Uf Burgthal. Until 1734, people often called it by its French name, La Bourg.
Geography and Location
Burg im Leimental covers an area of about 2.83 square kilometers (which is about 1.09 square miles). A big part of this area, about 80.6%, is covered by forests. This means there are lots of trees and green spaces!
About 14.1% of the land is used for farming. This includes pastures where animals graze and areas for growing crops. The remaining 4.9% of the land is where buildings and roads are located.
The town is nestled on the northern side of the Blauen mountains. It's also right on the border with France. Long ago, it was an important stop on the route to the Remel Pass, which was used during the Roman era. The village itself is a haufendorf, which means it grew in an unplanned way, with houses packed closely around a central area.
