Bushong is a small city located in Lyon County, Kansas, in the United States. It is a quiet place with a small population. As of the 2020 census, only 27 people lived there.

Bushong's History
The city of Bushong started as a "whistle-stop" for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. A whistle-stop was a small town where trains would briefly stop and blow their whistle. It was first called Weeks.
In 1886, the city changed its name to honor a famous baseball player. His name was Albert J. "Doc" Bushong. He was a catcher for the St. Louis Browns team.
How Bushong Got Its Name
The St. Louis Browns won the 1886 World Series against the Chicago White Stockings. To celebrate, the Missouri Pacific Railroad named some of their train stations after the winning players. Doc Bushong played in every game of the series. He was even at bat when the winning run was scored in Game Six. Bushong is the only city still named after a player from that 1886 World Series.
Cold War Connection
During the Cold War, Bushong was an important location. From 1961 to 1965, it was home to a special defense site. This site was part of the 548th Strategic Missile Squadron.
