Byron Boston is a former American football official who worked in the National Football League (NFL). He was an NFL official from 1995 until 2020. During his time, he worked as a line judge and wore the uniform number 18. Byron Boston was chosen to officiate in three major games: Super Bowl XXXIV, Super Bowl XLVII, and Super Bowl LII. He also worked ten conference championship games.

Byron Boston's Early Life
Byron Boston played football when he was in college. He played for Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He studied hard and earned a bachelor's degree in Economics from the college.
Byron Boston's Career in Football
Byron Boston started his career as a football official in 1977. He began by working Texas high school football games in Dallas, Texas. He did this from 1977 to 1984, and even officiated two State Championship games.
After high school games, Boston moved up to Junior College football in 1985. Later, in 1987, he joined the Southland Conference. In 1990, he started working games in the Southwest Conference. During his college football officiating career, Boston was selected for Division 1AA playoff games. His last game at the college level was the 1994 Holiday Bowl.
Joining the NFL
In 1995, Byron Boston was chosen to join the NFL officiating staff. This was a big step up in his career! He spent nearly 25 years as an NFL official.
On February 15, 2007, the Southland Conference asked Byron Boston to become their coordinator of football officials. This meant he helped manage and train other football officials for the conference.
Retirement and Recognition
Byron Boston retired from being an NFL official in 2020. After many years of hard work, his jersey, number 18, is now on display in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This is a special honor for officials who have had a great impact on the game.
Byron Boston's Personal Life
Byron Boston lives in Humble, Texas, with his wife, Carolyn. They have three children named Alicia, Byron Jr., and David. Interestingly, his son David also played American football as a wide receiver in the NFL. Outside of his football duties, Byron Boston works as a tax consultant.
