Byron Boston is a former football official who worked in the National Football League (NFL). He was an NFL official from 1995 until 2020. Byron was a "line judge," which means he helped make sure players were in the right place and watched for penalties along the sidelines. He wore jersey number 18. During his time in the NFL, Byron Boston was chosen to officiate three Super Bowls: Super Bowl XXXIV, Super Bowl XLVII, and Super Bowl LII. He also worked ten important conference championship games.

Byron's Early Life

Byron Boston played football when he was in college. He went to Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He studied Economics and earned a bachelor's degree there.

Byron's Journey to the NFL

Byron Boston started his career as a football official in 1977 in Dallas, Texas. For seven years, from 1977 to 1984, he officiated Texas high school football games. This included working two State Championship games, which are very important matches.

After high school football, Byron moved up to officiate Junior College games in 1985. Then, in 1987, he joined the Southland Conference, which is a group of college sports teams. By 1990, he was officiating games in the Southwest Conference.

During his college football officiating career, Byron was chosen to work in Division 1AA playoff games. His last college game was the 1994 Holiday Bowl. In 1995, Byron Boston was selected to join the NFL officiating staff, which was a big step in his career.

In 2007, the Southland Conference asked Byron Boston to be in charge of their football officials. This shows how much they trusted his experience and knowledge.

Retiring from the NFL

In 2020, after nearly 25 years of being an NFL official, Byron Boston retired. This was a long and successful career! To honor his work, his official jersey is now on display in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Byron's Family Life

Byron Boston lives in Humble, Texas, with his wife, Carolyn. They have three children: Alicia, Byron Jr., and David. David also played American football as a wide receiver in the NFL, just like his dad was an official there. Outside of his NFL duties, Byron Boston also works as a tax consultant.
