The Corbones River, which later joins the Guadalquivir River, starts near a small village called La Atalaya, which is part of Cañete La Real.
What Does the Name Cañete la Real Mean?
The name Cañete has an interesting history. Some people believe it comes from the Arabic name Hisn Qanit, which means “castle of Qanit.” Others think it refers to the caños, which means "springs" or "fountains." These springs still flow in some parts of the town today.
The second part of the name, La Real, means "royal." This part was added to honor King Alfonso XI.
