Cadiz (pronounced KAY-deez or KAY-diz) is a city in Kentucky, United States. It is the main town of Trigg County. In 2020, about 2,540 people lived there. Cadiz is also part of the larger Clarksville metropolitan area.
This historic town is located near Lake Barkley. It is also close to the Land Between the Lakes recreation area, which is a popular spot for outdoor activities. During the American Civil War, Cadiz was an important place for both Union and Confederate soldiers.

Where Did the Name Cadiz Come From?
The name Cadiz comes from a city in Spain. In May 1820, leaders decided to build the county seat on land owned by Robert Baker. He gave up 50 acres of his land for the new town.
From August to October of that year, the town was planned out in blocks and named Cadiz. Some local stories say that a Spanish person helping with the planning suggested the name of their hometown. Even though the name is Spanish, people in Kentucky do not say it with a Spanish accent.
