Discovering Cariad Lake

Where is Cariad Lake?

Cariad Lake is found in the northeastern part of Ontario, Canada. It sits partly in the Cochrane District and partly in the Timiskaming District. The closest town is Bourkes, which is about 11.5 kilometers (7.1 miles) to the east.

Most of the lake is within Black Township. This area is part of the municipality of Black River-Matheson in Cochrane District. A very small part of the lake's southwest edge is in Lee Township. This tiny section is in the Unorganized West Part of Timiskaming District.

How Big is Cariad Lake?

Cariad Lake is not a very large lake. It stretches about 880 meters (2,887 feet) long. The lake is also about 300 meters (984 feet) wide. It's a peaceful spot, perfect for nature lovers.

What Features Does the Lake Have?

Cariad Lake has one small, unnamed island. This island is located in the northwest part of the lake. There is also an unnamed stream that flows into the lake from the west. This stream helps to fill the lake with water.

The main stream flowing out of Cariad Lake is Tomwool Creek. It starts at the southeast end of the lake. Tomwool Creek then flows south towards Verona Lake.

Where Does the Water Go?

The water from Cariad Lake travels a long way! It starts in Tomwool Creek. From there, it flows through several other waterways. These include Sarsfield Creek, Meyers Lake, and Woollings Creek.

Next, the water enters the Whiteclay River. This river then joins the Black River. The Black River flows into the Abitibi River. Finally, the Abitibi River empties into the Moose River. The Moose River then carries all this water into James Bay. This entire journey is part of the large James Bay drainage basin.
