Carl Edward Kidd (born June 10, 1973) is a former professional football player. He played as a linebacker and defensive back. Carl was part of both the National Football League (NFL) in the United States and the Canadian Football League (CFL) in Canada. He was known for his strong defensive plays and helping his teams win championships.

Early Football Days
Carl Kidd started playing football in high school. He went to Pine Bluff Dollarway High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. After high school, he played at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.
Later, Carl played college football at the University of Arkansas. He was a cornerback and safety there. In 1993 and 1994, he earned a "letter" for his great performance. This means he was a top player.
As a senior, Carl was excellent at punt returns. He also won the Steve Little Award. This award goes to the best special teams player for the Arkansas Razorbacks. After his senior year, Carl was chosen to play in the Blue-Gray Classic. This was an all-star game for top college players.
Playing in the NFL
Carl Kidd was not chosen in the 1995 NFL draft. But the Oakland Raiders signed him as a free agent. A free agent is a player who can sign with any team. He played for the Raiders in 1995 and 1996.
In 1996, Carl played in all sixteen games for the Raiders. He made his only interception in his NFL career. An interception is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an opponent. He also returned 29 kickoffs for 622 yards. After his time with the Raiders, Carl spent three years in different NFL training camps. Then, in 2000, he joined the BC Lions in the CFL.

2002 Season
In the 2002 CFL season, Carl was named a CFL Western All-Star. This means he was one of the best players in the Western Division. He returned two interceptions for touchdowns. He was also named BC's top defensive player for one week.
2003 Season
In 2003 CFL season, Carl was named Defensive Player of the Week again. He was sixth in the CFL with 87 tackles. A tackle is when a defensive player brings down an opponent with the ball. He also returned two more interceptions for touchdowns that year.
2004 Season
The 2004 CFL season saw Carl score his fifth career touchdown. This was from a 35-yard interception return against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He also led the Lions with 54 defensive tackles.
2005 Season
In 2005 CFL season, Carl missed the first two games due to an injury. But he still led the Lions in special teams tackles. He also had two sacks. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.
2006 Grey Cup Win
The 2006 CFL season was a big one for Carl. He had 66 tackles and 4 sacks. He helped the Lions win the 94th Grey Cup. The Grey Cup is the championship game of the CFL. In his final game, Carl made a critical play. He teamed up with Javier Glatt to cause a fumble. A fumble is when a player drops the ball. This play helped seal the Grey Cup title for the Lions.
On March 27, 2007, Carl Kidd announced his retirement from professional football. He was 33 years old.
