Carla Bruni-Sarközy de Nagy-Bocsa (born Carla Gilberta Bruni Tedeschi; 23 December 1967) is a talented Italian and French singer, songwriter, and fashion model. She became the first lady of France from 2008 to 2012 after marrying then-president Nicolas Sarkozy.
Carla was born in Italy and moved to France when she was seven years old. She worked as a model from 1987 to 1997. After that, she started a career in music. She wrote songs for Julien Clerc's 2000 album, Si j'étais elle. Carla released her first album, Quelqu'un m'a dit, in 2003. It was very popular, staying in the top 10 of the French Albums Chart for 34 weeks. In 2004, she won the Victoire Award for Female Artist of the Year. She continued to release successful albums like No Promises (2005), Comme si de rien n'était (2008), Little French Songs (2013), and French Touch (2017). In 2024, she even walked in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
Early Life and Family Background
Carla Bruni was born in Turin, Italy. Her legal parents are Italian concert pianist Marisa Borini and industrialist and classical composer Alberto Bruni Tedeschi. In 2008, Carla shared that her biological father is Maurizio Remmert, a classical guitarist.
Carla's sister is the actress and movie director Valeria Bruni Tedeschi. Her family moved to France in 1975 to avoid a dangerous group in Italy. Carla grew up in France from age seven. She went to a boarding school in Switzerland. Later, she went to Paris to study art and architecture. However, she left school at 19 to become a model.

Becoming a Top Model (1987–1996)

Carla Bruni started her modeling career at 19, signing with City Models in 1987. She was chosen by Paul Marciano of Guess? Inc. to model for their jeans campaigns. She then worked for many famous fashion designers and brands. These included Christian Dior, Givenchy, Chanel, and Versace. By the 1990s, Carla was one of the highest-paid models in the world.
Starting a Music Career (1997–2005)
In 1997, Carla decided to leave the fashion world to focus on music. She sent her song lyrics to Julien Clerc in 1999. He used six of her songs on his 2000 album.
In 2003, Carla released her first album, Quelqu'un m'a dit. It was produced by Louis Bertignac and became a big success, selling 2 million copies. Songs from this album were used in several movies and commercials. In 2005, she also wrote lyrics for 10 songs on Louis Bertignac's album Longtemps.
New Albums and Performances (2006–Present)
Carla continued making music after her marriage. She released her third album, Comme si de rien n'était, in 2008. The songs were mostly written by her. She also sang for Nelson Mandela's 91st birthday in New York City in 2009.
In September 2009, she recorded a duet with Harry Connick, Jr. for his album Your Songs. They sang The Beatles' song "And I Love Her". Carla also appeared in a Woody Allen film called Midnight in Paris in 2011. She said she wanted to be able to tell her grandchildren she made a film with Woody Allen.
In 2017, Carla Bruni returned to the runway. She closed the Versace fashion show with other famous models like Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell. She also hosted music shows on BBC Radio 2. Political Activities
After marrying President Nicolas Sarkozy in February 2008, Carla Bruni moved into the Élysée Palace. This is where the President of France lives and works. She had her own office there and a private secretary.
Even though she didn't have an official government role, Carla helped her husband with many official duties. She went with him on important visits to other countries, like the United Kingdom. She also met the Dalai Lama with President Sarkozy in 2008.
Carla Bruni has also worked as an ambassador for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. She visited countries like Burkina Faso and Benin to support this organization. In 2010, Forbes magazine listed Carla as the 35th-most powerful woman in the world.

Political Views
Carla Bruni has shared her thoughts on politics. Before she married Nicolas Sarkozy, she said she would have voted for his opponent in the 2007 French presidential election. She explained that her family usually voted for left-wing parties.
In 2011, Carla said she no longer felt left-wing and supported her husband's political views. However, in 2020, she stated that she is a feminist, like many women, and that her husband is also a feminist. She also said she is not a very political person. Carla supports same-sex marriage and same-sex adoption.
Family Life
Carla Bruni has two children. Her son, Aurélien, was born in 2001. In 2011, she gave birth to a daughter named Giulia in Paris.
Carla met Nicolas Sarkozy in November 2007. They married on 2 February 2008, at the Élysée Palace in Paris. This was Carla's first marriage. She became a French citizen in December 2008. She has also said that she still holds her Italian citizenship.
