Carleton is a small village located in Monroe County, in the state of Michigan, USA. In 2020, about 2,326 people lived there. The village is part of Ash Township.

History of Carleton
Carleton was first planned out in 1872 by Daniel Matthews. He was the first postmaster when the Carleton post office opened in 1874. The community was named after Will Carleton, a famous local poet.
The village grew around important railway lines. These included the Pere Marquette Railway and a connection with the Canada Southern Railway. The Pennsylvania Railroad was also nearby. Carleton officially became a village in 1911.
Carleton's Geography
Carleton is in the northeast part of Monroe County. It's about 11 miles (18 km) north of Monroe, which is the main city of the county. It's also about 6 miles (10 km) southwest of Flat Rock.
A big highway, Interstate 275, passes about one mile east of the village. You can get to Carleton from Exit 5, which is Carleton Rockwood Road.
The village covers about 0.99 square miles (2.56 km2) of land. There is no water area within the village limits. Water from the land flows east and south into Swan Creek, which then goes towards Lake Erie.
