Carmi (say it like Car-my) is a city in Illinois, United States. It is the main city, or county seat, of White County. Carmi is located along the Little Wabash River. In 2020, about 4,865 people lived there.

Carmi's History
Carmi was founded in 1816. The city's name comes from a biblical name. The Carmi post office has been open since 1817. In 1939, a special painting called Service to the Farmer was put on display there. This painting was created by Davenport Griffen.

Carmi is located in southern Illinois. It covers about 2.62 square miles (6.79 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water. The city sits along the Little Wabash River.
