Casselberry started as part of a larger community called Fern Park. On October 10, 1940, the people living there decided to officially make it its own town. They called it the "Town of Casselberry." One main reason they did this was to avoid paying property taxes.

Later, on July 25, 1965, the town officially became the "City of Casselberry." A few years after that, in 1976, the citizens of Casselberry voted to start paying property taxes again.
