History of Celine

How the Brand Started

In 1945, Céline Vipiana and her husband, Richard, began their business. They started by making custom-made shoes for children. Their first store was in Paris. The brand's first logo was a red elephant. It was designed by Raymont Peynet.

Changing Focus

Around 1960, Celine decided to make clothes for women. They focused on "ready-to-wear" fashion, which means clothes made in standard sizes. They also started selling leather items like bags, loafers, and gloves. Céline Vipiana designed for the brand until 1988.

In 1964, Celine launched a new perfume called "Vent fou." They also released a popular collection of accessories. The trench coat became a very important product for the brand. Because leather items were so popular, Celine opened a special leather goods store in Florence, Italy.

In 1973, Celine changed its logo. The new logo had two "C" letters linked together. This design was inspired by the Arc-de-Triomphe in Paris. Around this time, Celine started opening stores in other countries. They opened boutiques in places like Monte Carlo, Hong Kong, and Beverly Hills.

Joining LVMH

In 1987, a businessman named Bernard Arnault bought part of Celine. In 1996, the brand became a part of the LVMH group. LVMH is a very large company that owns many luxury brands. This helped Celine become even more famous around the world. LVMH opened a big new Celine store in Paris.
