Lalisa Manobal (born Pranpriya Manobal, March 27, 1997), known as Lisa, is a talented Thai rapper, singer, dancer, and actress. She is a popular member of the South Korean girl group Blackpink. Blackpink started their career with YG Entertainment in August 2016. Lisa also began her acting journey in 2025 in the HBO TV series The White Lotus.
In September 2021, Lisa released her first solo album, Lalisa. This album made history as she was the first female artist to sell 736,000 copies in its first week in South Korea. The music video for her song "Lalisa" became the most-watched music video by a solo artist on YouTube in its first 24 hours. Another song from the album, "Money", became super popular. It was the first song by a K-pop solo artist to get one billion streams on Spotify. Both songs were among the top ten on the Billboard Global 200 chart.
In 2024, Lisa started her own company called Lloud. She also signed with RCA Records for her solo music. Her song "Rockstar" became her first number-one hit on the Billboard Global Excl. US chart. This song was the main single from her first studio album, Alter Ego, which came out in 2025.
Lisa has won many awards, including nine Guinness World Records. Life and Career Highlights
Early Life and Education (1997–2010)
Lisa was born Pranpriya Manobal on March 27, 1997, in Buriram province, Thailand. Later, she legally changed her name to Lalisa. This new name means "the one being praised." She changed it after a fortune teller suggested it for good luck. Lisa is an only child. She was raised by her Thai mother and her Swiss stepfather.
Lisa started taking dance classes when she was four years old. She often competed in dance contests. She was part of a dance group called We Zaa Cool. This group had eleven members, including BamBam from Got7. In 2009, her dance crew won a special award in a TV competition. Lisa also came in second place in a singing contest for schools in 2009.
Becoming a K-pop Trainee (2012–2015)
In 2010, when Lisa was 13, she tried out for YG Entertainment. This is a big record label in South Korea. She loved K-pop artists like BigBang and 2NE1 when she was a child. She wanted to follow in their footsteps. Out of 4,000 people who auditioned, Lisa was the only one chosen. This meant she could become a trainee at YG Entertainment. A judge at her audition, Danny Im, was very impressed by her confidence.
In 2011, Lisa moved to South Korea to start her training. She was the first non-Korean trainee to join the label on April 11. In 2013, she appeared as a backup dancer in a music video for Taeyang's song "Ringa Linga". She also started modeling in 2015 for brands like Nona9on and Moonshot.
Debut with Blackpink and Solo Success (2016–2023)
In August 2016, Lisa officially debuted as a member of the South Korean girl group Blackpink. She was the first non-Korean artist to debut under YG Entertainment. Blackpink's first album, Square One, had hit songs like "Whistle" and "Boombayah". "Whistle" quickly became number one on all South Korean music charts. In 2018, Blackpink partnered with Interscope Records for their global music releases.
Lisa also appeared on the TV show Real Man 300 starting in September 2018. This was her first TV role since her debut. She even won an unofficial award for Character of the Year. On November 5, 2018, Lisa started her own YouTube channel called Lilifilm Official. She shared videos about her travels, lifestyle, and dance. Her debut solo album, Lalisa, and its main song, "Lalisa", came out on September 10, 2021. The music video for "Lalisa" broke records. It had 73.6 million views in 24 hours, making it the most-viewed video by a solo artist in that time. This earned her two Guinness World Records. The song also reached number 84 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was number two on the Billboard Global 200 chart. The album sold 736,221 copies in South Korea in its first week. The song "Money" from the album became very popular after a dance video was released on YouTube. It went viral on social media and climbed international charts. Lisa worked with DJ Snake, Ozuna, and Megan Thee Stallion on the song "SG". This song was released on October 22, 2021. Lisa helped write and compose the song. The music video for "SG" was filmed in Miami. The song reached number 19 on the Billboard Global 200. In the US, it became Lisa's first number-one song on the Latin Airplay chart. On August 28, 2022, Lisa won the MTV Video Music Award for Best K-Pop for "Lalisa". She was the first K-pop solo artist to win this award. Lisa was featured on BigBang member Taeyang's song "Shoong!". This song was released on April 25, 2023. Lisa also appeared in the song's performance video, dancing with Taeyang. In May 2023, Lisa earned two more Guinness World Records. She became the fastest solo female K-pop artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. Her album Lalisa was also the first album by a solo K-pop artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. This meant she had the most Guinness World Records for a K-pop soloist, with seven.
In September 2023, Lisa performed five shows at the famous Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse. She performed solo and with the dance troupe. The same month, she earned her eighth Guinness World Record. Her song "Money" was the first K-pop solo track to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. To celebrate, Lisa appeared on Spotify's Billions Club series. She received a special plaque in Paris.
On November 22, 2023, King Charles III honored Lisa. She became an Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Her bandmates also received this honor at Buckingham Palace. The South Korean president was also there. On December 5, YG Entertainment announced that Blackpink members renewed their contracts for group activities. However, on December 29, it was confirmed that Lisa and the other members would not continue their individual contracts with YG Entertainment.
New Beginnings and Acting Debut (2024–Present)
Lisa performed at the Le Gala des Pièces Jaunes charity event in Paris on January 26, 2024. This event was organized by Brigitte Macron, the first lady of France. Lisa sang her solo hits "Lalisa" and "Money". She also made a surprise appearance during DJ Snake's set, performing "SG" live for the first time. On February 8, Lisa announced she had started her own artist management company, Lloud. On April 10, it was announced that Lisa joined RCA Records for her solo music through a partnership with Lloud. She now owns all her music recordings.
Lisa started teasing new music on June 6 by creating a new TikTok account. She posted a video with a short music clip. This led her to set a Guinness World Record for gaining a million followers in just two hours and 18 minutes. She officially released "Rockstar" on June 27. This was the main song from her first studio album, Alter Ego. A music video for "Rockstar" was filmed in Bangkok. It showed respect for her Thai culture. Lisa has worked with many brands. She became a brand ambassador for the South Korean cosmetics brand Moonshot in China in 2018. In 2019, she became their ambassador in Thailand. Six of their products even had her autograph on the packaging. On March 28, 2019, Lisa signed her first solo endorsement deal with Advanced Info Service (AIS). This is the biggest mobile phone company in Thailand. She became their highest-paid brand presenter. Her advertisements were the most-watched commercials in Thailand.
In May 2019, Lisa started promoting the Samsung Galaxy S10 in Thailand. She also appeared as a character in the mobile game Ragnarok M: Eternal Love. In January 2020, Lisa became an endorsement model for Adidas' sportswear. She also became a spokesperson for the fabric softener company D&G Downy in China. Soon after, she became a spokesperson for Zhengouli, a yogurt brand. In June 2020, Tencent Games announced Lisa as the new spokesperson for their mobile game Brawl Stars. In October 2020, MAC Cosmetics named Lisa their new global brand ambassador. She was the face of many of their makeup collections.
In February 2021, Lisa was announced as the model for the Vivo S9 smartphone. She had also promoted the Vivo S7 in 2020. In March 2022, she became the brand ambassador for the whiskey brand Chivas Regal. In September 2024, she was in a campaign for the American earbuds brand Bose. She promoted their Ultra Open Earbuds.
Fashion and Photography
In January 2019, Lisa became a muse for Hedi Slimane. He is the director of the French luxury fashion brand Celine. After appearing in their campaign in June 2020, she was named their global ambassador in September 2020.
In July 2020, Lisa became a brand ambassador for Bulgari. This is an Italian luxury fashion house. She appeared in online campaigns for their jewelry collections. Later that year, in November, the clothing brand Penshoppe also named her their new ambassador.
On February 16, 2021, Lisa was a guest judge for the French fashion award ANDAM. On November 13, she announced her own makeup collection with MAC Cosmetics. It was called MAC X L. The line included blushes, eyeliner, an eyeshadow palette, and face powder.
In January 2023, Lisa worked with Bulgari on a special limited edition watch for their "Bulgari Bulgari" collection. In July 2024, Lisa became a house ambassador for Louis Vuitton.
Lisa also released a series of limited-edition photo books called 0327. These books are full of photos she took herself with a film camera. The first book came out on her birthday in 2020. New volumes were released on her birthday in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Helping Others
On September 17, 2019, heavy rain caused floods in Thailand. Lisa donated 100,000 Thai Baht to a fund to help those affected by the floods.
In September 2021, Lisa showed interest in a program to help her home province of Buriram. This program aimed to build a cultural center at a school. It would also provide computers and equipment. It would even start a K-pop dance academy with local teachers. Lisa helped collect donations for this project.
In July 2024, she was announced as a main performer for the Global Citizen Festival. This event works to end extreme poverty. The festival took place on September 28.
Impact and Influence
Lisa has inspired many other K-pop performers. Gaga from the group Nature and Mayna from Hot Issue both said Lisa is their role model. The song "Tomboy" by Destiny Rogers became much more popular after Lisa posted a dance video to it on her YouTube channel. Destiny Rogers thanked Lisa for helping her song.
Thailand's former prime minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha, praised Lisa. He said she helped promote Thai culture in her "Lalisa" music video. Because of the Thai cultural references in the video, sales of traditional Thai costumes and accessories increased in Bangkok markets. In March 2021, Lisa received the "Inspirational Role Model" Award. This was for being a leader and role model for young people in Thailand. In 2023, the Thailand Ministry of Culture honored her with an award. It recognized her as a "leading force promoting Thailand to the world."
Lisa became the most-followed K-pop idol on Instagram in April 2019. She had 17.4 million followers then. In April 2021, she became the first K-pop idol to pass 50 million Instagram followers. In January 2023, she earned a Guinness World Record for being the most-followed K-pop artist on Instagram, with 87 million followers. As of September 2021, Lisa also held the record for the most-subscribed female K-pop soloist on YouTube with her channel Lilifilm Official. In August 2024, she became the most-followed female K-pop soloist on Spotify.
Lisa's influence in fashion and makeup is also very strong. When she had her first solo magazine cover for Harper's Bazaar Thailand in May 2019, all 120,000 copies sold out. This was much more than the usual number of copies printed for magazines. Her partnership with MAC Cosmetics was named one of the top beauty collaborations of 2020. This shows how much impact she has.
In April 2023, researchers at Chiang Mai University named a new Thai flower species Friesodielsia lalisae after Lisa. In October 2023, Lisa was named one of the people to be added to the Asian Hall of Fame.
