Lisa's Journey and Career
Early Life and Growing Up (1997–2010)
Lisa was born Pranpriya Manobal on March 27, 1997, in Buriram Province, Thailand. Later, she legally changed her name to Lalisa. This new name means "the one being praised" and was suggested by a fortune teller for good luck. She is an only child and was raised by her Thai mother, Chitthip Brüschweiler, and her Swiss stepfather, Marco Brüschweiler, who is a chef. Lisa finished her high school education at Praphamontree School I and II. She can speak many languages, including her native Thai, fluent Korean and English, and some Japanese and Chinese.
Lisa started taking dance classes when she was four years old. She often competed in dance contests, including "To Be Number One". She also joined an eleven-member dance group called We Zaa Cool with BamBam from Got7. In September 2009, her group entered the LG Entertainment Million Dream Sanan World competition and won a special team award. Lisa also sang in a school contest called Top 3 Good Morals of Thailand in early 2009 and came in second place.
Becoming a Trainee (2012–2015)
In 2010, when Lisa was 13, she tried out for the South Korean music company YG Entertainment in Thailand. She had been interested in K-pop since she was a child, looking up to groups like BigBang and 2NE1. She wanted to follow in their footsteps. Out of 4,000 people who auditioned, she was the only one chosen. This led the CEO of YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun-suk, to offer Lisa a chance to become a trainee. One of the judges, Danny Im from 1TYM, was very impressed by Lisa's confidence on stage and her good attitude off stage.
In 2011, Lisa moved to South Korea to start her training. She officially joined YG Entertainment on April 11, becoming their first non-Korean trainee. In November 2013, she appeared as a background dancer in the music video for "Ringa Linga" by Taeyang, another artist from YG. In March 2015, Lisa started her first modeling job for the clothing brand Nona9on. She also modeled for the South Korean makeup brand Moonshot in 2016.
Joining Blackpink and Solo Success (2016–2023)
In August 2016, Lisa became one of the four members of the South Korean girl group Blackpink. She was the first non-Korean artist to debut under YG Entertainment. Blackpink's first album, Square One, included the hit songs "Whistle" and "Boombayah". "Whistle" quickly became number one on all South Korean music charts. In 2018, Blackpink signed a global deal with Interscope Records and YG Entertainment.
Lisa became a regular cast member on the MBC military TV show Real Man 300 starting in September 2018. This was her first TV role since her debut. She even won an unofficial "Character of the Year" award at the 2018 MBC Entertainment Awards. On November 5, 2018, Lisa started her own YouTube channel called Lilifilm Official. On this channel, she shares videos about her travels, daily life, and dance. By July 2019, she had over 1.3 million subscribers and received a YouTube Gold Play Button. One of her dance videos became very popular in 2020 because of a funny internet trend. Many famous people like Dolly Parton and Lil Nas X joined in on the trend. In March 2020, Lisa became a dance mentor on the Chinese TV show Youth With You Season 2, where she helped train a girl group. She returned as a dance mentor for the show's third season in February 2021, this time for boy groups.
On April 19, 2021, YG Entertainment announced that Lisa would be the third member of Blackpink to release solo music. Her first solo album, Lalisa, and its main song, "Lalisa", came out on September 10, 2021. The music video for "Lalisa" was watched 73.6 million times in 24 hours, breaking the record for a solo artist. This earned her two Guinness World Records. The song reached number 84 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the Billboard Global 200. The album sold 736,221 copies in South Korea in its first week. This set a new record for first-week sales by a female artist and made Lisa the first female solo artist to sell over 500,000 copies in one week.
The album also included the song "Money". A special dance video for this song was released on YouTube on September 24. "Money" became very popular on social media and started climbing international music charts. It reached number ten on the Billboard Global 200. In the US, it reached number 90 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first song by a female K-pop solo artist to stay on the chart for multiple weeks. "Money" also reached number 46 on the UK Singles Chart and stayed there for eight weeks, becoming the longest-charting song by a female K-pop solo artist in the UK.

Lisa worked with French music producer DJ Snake, Puerto Rican singer Ozuna, and American rapper Megan Thee Stallion on the song "SG". This song was released on October 22, 2021. Lisa helped write and compose the song. A music video for "SG" was filmed in Miami and released at the same time. The song reached number 19 on the Billboard Global 200. In the US, it became Lisa's first number-one song on the Latin Airplay chart. On August 28, 2022, Lisa won the MTV Video Music Award for Best K-Pop for "Lalisa". She was the first K-pop solo artist to win an MTV Video Music Award. Lisa received two Guinness World Records in 2023 for these achievements. She also got a third record for being the most followed K-pop artist on Instagram.
Lisa was featured on "Shoong!", a song by Taeyang from his album Down to Earth, released on April 25, 2023. She also appeared in the song's performance video, dancing with Taeyang. In May, Lisa earned two more Guinness World Records. She became the fastest female K-pop solo artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. Her album Lalisa was also the first album by a solo K-pop artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. With these, she now holds the most Guinness World Records for a K-pop solo artist, with seven records.
In September 2023, Lisa performed five shows at the famous Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse. She performed solo and with the dance group. The same month, she earned her eighth Guinness World Record for "Money" being the first K-pop song by a solo artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.

However, on December 29, it was confirmed that Lisa and the other members would not continue their individual contracts with YG Entertainment.
Lisa performed at the Le Gala des Pièces Jaunes charity event in Paris on January 26, 2024. This event was organized by the First Lady of France, Brigitte Macron. She officially released the song "Rockstar" through Lloud and RCA on June 28. The music video for "Rockstar" was filmed in Bangkok and showed respect to her Thai culture. It also reached number 70 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming her highest-charting song there.

Lisa performed at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on September 11. This was her first major solo performance and made her the first K-pop solo artist to perform on the show. "Rockstar" was nominated for four awards and won Best K-Pop, making Lisa the first solo artist to win this award twice.

The song "Tomboy" by Destiny Rogers became much more popular after Lisa uploaded a dance video to her YouTube channel. Destiny Rogers herself thanked Lisa on Twitter for making her song popular again.
